Media Essays: Sonic and Doctor Who: Would It Work?

Title card

Written by The Wandering Fox

Freddy: This is quite a surprise, didn’t think he’d try this for the blog.

Teddy: Well you gotta give it to him, he has his ideas.

And I only hope this idea works out. I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t get many views but hey, I wanted to share it.

Hey everybody it’s me, the Wandering Fox, and as you can see by the title I thought of this. Sonic the Hedgehog and Doctor Who. Can such a crossover work? Well we kinda did have it already.

No Sonic, the screwdriver came way before you did, lol.

Me being a fan of both franchises, but not entirely happy with all of it, I just thought what kind of story could be told that brings together our beloved time traveller with the blue blur? What format can it work in? Well let’s have a little look then.

Before we begin though, I will say this:

Ian Flynn. I know you’re looking at this. We know you lurk around here because you hate any criticism thrown your way and have your cult worship you and you have a bit of stealing things, be it money or ideas. If I find out you’re gonna try it again I’m gonna make sure everybody knows it. Don’t. Steal. Anything. Simple thing our mums and dads teach us mate, stick to it.

Back to it.

Format

The best way to do this crossover would be in a comic. It’s not expensive and you can do all kinds of artistic beauty within the comic. While an audio series would be good we know that fans want to see the crossover, and hiring the actors from both sides would make it way too expensive, I mean David Tennant isn’t cheap and a lot of the money would go to him, so I’d rather it was told in comic form.

I’d make it three stories, all told maybe in ten issues. I’d start small first before going big because unlike Ian Flynn, who tossed in Darkseid as the first baddie Sonic and the Justice League to fight, I’d rather start small then build to a bigger fight in the final story. The stories themselves serve as a past, present and future as we explore certain eras of both franchises.

I will say the Freedom Fighters won’t be in this. I do love them, but i gotta accept SEGA aren’t really interested in them and I’m writing this as if I was really working for SEGA, so it’d be the video game characters we’d mostly see. For who will be in it? Let’s look at each character in each story.

First Story

Classic Sonic, Classic Tails

Fourth Doctor, Leela and K-9

Dr Eggman, Metal Sonic, Egg Robos

The Master.

Second Story

Modern Sonic, Modern Tails, Modern Knuckles, Modern Amy

Dr Eggman, Sage, Orbot and Cubot

Tenth Doctor

Cybermen

Sonic the Hedgehog and the 10th Doctor

Final Story

Silver, Modern Sonic, Modern Tails, Shadow, Omega

Dr Eggman, Sage, Metal Sonic

Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz

The Daleks

Yeah, I’d have the Daleks be the final villains on the Doctor Who side of the crossover. Ian Flynn would use them straight away but not here, they are saved for last.

Sonic and Doctor Who crossover villains

I want to explain as well that I went with the Fourth Doctor on the classic side of the crossover since he is the face of Classic Who so it only makes sense he’d team with Classic Sonic. Were SEGA asked me to do backup stories with certain Doctors then I’d have maybe the Sixth Doctor team up with Blaze, the Eighth Doctor with Shadow, and the Third Doctor with the Chaotix. But those are backup stories so I’ll come to them later. Let’s crack on with the story though.

Story 1: The Phantom Terror

While chilling out on the Tornado, Sonic and Tails notice a grandfather clock appear down in the grass below and see a man in a green cloak walk out of it. It’s the Master as he appeared in The Deadly Assassin, all deformed and on his last life. He sticks a device in the ground and weakly sits, trying to catch his breath. Sonic and Tails go to the Master and ask what he’s doing. The Master belittles them, calling them mere simpletons who don’t need to concern themselves with what he’s doing. Sonic is annoyed, saying he’s acting like Eggman, but Tails looks at the clock and asks the Master how he walked out of it. The Master tells Tails his little mind wouldn’t be able to grasp it and tells them to leave. However, Eggman comes with a ship and sends his robots out to fight Sonic and Tails and then steals the clock, angering the Master who takes out a gun and starts shooting at the robots before he jumps back in the clock, which is his TARDIS. He tries to de-materialise it but Eggman has engaged a magnetic lock on it, meaning the Master can’t escape. Sonic and Tails try to go after the ship but are stopped by Metal Sonic, who battles them both and nearly kills them until he’s shot by a red laser. Knocked back, Metal Sonic looks to see K-9 was the one who shot him with the Fourth Doctor and Leela beside him. Metal Sonic is told to fall back by Eggman who is happy with what he’s got.

The Doctor and Leela talk with Sonic and Tails, asking if they’re alright. Sonic and Tails are grateful for the help and Leela asks K-9 what aliens they are,

Leela: K-9, what exactly are Sonic and Tails? They seem similar to certain creatures the Doctor showed me on Earth.

Sonic: Oh me and Tails are-

K-9: Scanning.

He sticks his red dot out and Sonic and Tails stare at it.

Sonic: Uh, that’s scanning?

Tails: That’s. Unique.

K-9: Processing, mistress. Scan complete. The blue creature is a hedgehog. The two tailed creature is a fox.

Sonic: Yeah, we could’ve told you that.

Tails: That was good, K-9!

Leela: A hedgehog and fox? How?

Doctor: Ah yes, distant cousins from those of Earth, just evolved a lot differently!

Though confused at first, Sonic and Tails still thank them and ask what they’re here for. The Doctor and Leela explain they were trying to find the Master, who had killed a whole warehouse of workers to invent a Transomittor, a device that can hook in a powerful energy object. Sure enough, the Transomittor plucks out the Phantom Ruby from the ground. Sonic is surprised as he was sure it was destroyed though the Doctor says lots of objects containing energy aren’t really destroyed, they just reform. The Doctor asks them who that was that took the Master with Sonic explaining that was Dr Eggman, saying that it’s a good thing Eggman didn’t get the Master with the Phantom Ruby. Taking the Ruby, the Doctor asks Sonic and Tails to come back with him, Leela and K-9 to the TARDIS. Going inside Sonic and Tails are amazed by the interior and Tails realises that there’s no way the Doctor is a regular human cos even Eggman couldn’t have something like this. Going to the console, Sonic explains how the Phantom Ruby works to the Doctor. Leela says with such a Ruby it’d make those who’d wield it gave great power hence no wonder the Master wanted it. The Doctor chooses to keep it in the TARDIS and goes after the Master, saying that the Master’s evil genius combined with Eggman’s can be dangerous not just for Sonic’s world but many others.

In Eggman’s ship, the Master is let out of the TARDIS but his gun is swiped by Metal Sonic. Dr Eggman has him surrounded by multiple Egg Robos, telling him that he has no other choice but to obey him. The Master remarks if he was at full power it’d be Eggman who’d obey him. He demands to know why Eggman took him. Eggman explains he was on the hunt for the Phantom Ruby after its energy signature came up to him and saw it was going towards another energy signature which he found was the Master’s TARDIS. Eggman explains he has long tried to take over his own planet but Sonic has been in the way. The Master remarks he’s had similar troubles with his old friend the Doctor. Eggman asks him what he looks like to which the Master describes the Doctor’s fourth body to him and Eggman realises that’s the owner of K-9. The Master, seeing a chance to get out of this and hoping to backstab Eggman, promises to reveal the secrets of time and space to him if he helps him get the Phantom Ruby. Eggman accepts but he himself knows the Master is gonna backstab him, hoping to kill him and take the TARDIS for himself. With Robotnik’s chameleon badnik they watch the Doctor, Leela, Sonic, Tails and K-9 leave the TARDIS as they try to figure out how to get to the Master. Sonic suggests they fly in Tails’s Tornado and take a few Power Rings with them to get some juice to tear through Eggman’s robots though Leela remarks the Tornado isn’t big enough for them all to which the Doctor suggests he can materialise the TARDIS on Eggman’s ship. The Master smirks and reckons that will be a good idea. Agreeing to the Doctor’s plan, Sonic and Tails gather a few Power Rings and go inside the TARDIS, which the Doctor begins to materialise on the ship. The Doctor suggests to Tails and Leela they stay in the TARDIS just in case something goes wrong. Tails at first isn’t so keen on doing that as well as Leela, though Sonic tells Tails if anything does go wrong he is counting on him to keep the Phantom Ruby away from Eggman. The Doctor reminds Leela to use the TARDIS’s reverse gears in case something goes wrong. Once fully materialised the Doctor finds the Master’s TARDIS has put up a barrier to stop the Doctor from getting too close so he’s gonna have to take the long way. The Doctor, Sonic and K-9 leave the TARDIS.

Sonic suggests clearing a path but K-9 notes they are currently surrounded and then shoots multiple chameleon badniks. Sonic grins at him and hopes K-9 keeps a score of how many he’s defeating. He tells the Doctor to not get distracted as he clears the way. They go through a few corridors with Sonic and K-9 defeating a few robots until he and the Doctor are separated. The Doctor and K-9 are knocked in the wall by Metal Sonic who tears K-9’s head off and tries to kill the Doctor but the Doctor knocks him back with his yo-yo and then uses a Power Ring to get K-9 back together with K-9 shooting Metal Sonic with a stronger laser but the Power Ring ends up draining K-9 and the Doctor is knocked unconscious by Metal Sonic who takes the Phantom Ruby from him. Sonic ends up having to battle both Eggman and the Master in their mechs and he at first has the upper hand until the Master gets out a gun and shoots Sonic who ends up shrinking. Sonic is caught in a jar and Eggman and the Master cackle as they think they’ve won. While this is going on, Tails and Leela bond over how Sonic and the Doctor found them and showed them so many great things and found themselves. Leela sees the Doctor as a wise mentor while Tails sees Sonic as his big brother and best friend and wants to be as great as him while Leela wants to do right by the Doctor but show she has matured enough to trust her own instinct.

Going in the Master’s TARDIS, Eggman and the Master contact Leela and Tails, cackling about how defeating Sonic and the Doctor, that soon the planet will be theirs. Leela at first wants to go out and rescue the Doctor but remembers what he said. Leela de-materialises the TARDIS and asks Tails if he can fly the Tornado. The Doctor is tied up, Sonic is in the jar and K-9 is being held by an inhibitor ring, the Master gives the Phantom Ruby a try and sees that it’s capable of altering his appearance, switching to a normal looking Geoffrey Beevers. Sonic rolls his eyes and says that the Phantom Ruby is just giving him a makeover while the Doctor asks if the Master feels any different. This has the Master crush a steel pipe, saying he can feel its energy eating out his decaying form and soon his new body will be solid. Eggman wants to create multiple copies of his robots but the Master wants to have fun first and uses the Phantom Ruby to create constructs of the Doctor’s past companions such as Susan, Sara, Victoria, Jamie, Zoe and Sarah, all of whom taunt the Doctor, asking if he ever thought of them, if he ever cared. The Doctor tries to fight through the illusions but the Master is using his telepathy to amp up the Phantom Ruby’s powers, making it feel real to the Doctor. Sonic is angered.

Sonic: Hey! For a guy who calls himself the Master you sure like to hide behind illusions!

Master: Not now, hedgehog! I’m having a bit of fun!

Sonic: Is this what you do? Hide behind tricks and masks? You’re just a coward! You’re doing this because you’re scared of the Doctor!

Master: Scared?

Sonic: Yeah! If you weren’t so scared of the Doctor I bet you’d be smacking him about with your fists! What’s the matter? You too weak?

The Master gets angry enough that it causes the illusions to falter. The Doctor thanks Sonic as Eggman snatches the Phantom Ruby off of the Master, saying he needs it now. The Master then finds the effects of the Phantom Ruby starts to fade, turning him back to his deformed appearance.

The Doctor remarks things never work out well for the Master. Walking away, the Master looks to the stolen Power Rings and thinks of what to do with them, leaving his shrink gun behind. Eggman meanwhile uses the Phantom Ruby to revive all of his defeated Badniks, laughing as he then thinks of making multiple ships and begin his conquest. However, the ship is rocked by the Tornado, with Tails and Leela shooting at it. This causes the Doctor to get free, grabbing Sonic, K-9 and the Master’s gun. He quickly drops the Master’s TARDIS from the ship, knowing well the Master will be trying to get it back. Getting back into his TARDIS, the Doctor contacts Tails and Leela, telling them he’s free. The Tornado retreats and the TARDIS materialises next to it as soon as it lands. The Master wants to find his TARDIS but Eggman says there’s no need, with the Phantom Ruby they can take over the planet. The Master says that though Sonic has been shrunk, the Doctor can still ruin their plans and suggests they turn around and kill them while they have the chance.

Tails repairs K-9 while the Doctor reverses the effects of the Master’s gun, turning Sonic back to his true size. With the Phantom Ruby still with Eggman and the Master, the Doctor thinks their only choice is to go back on the ship and get it, but it’s then the ship returns and multiplies with a whole army of Metal Sonics and Egg Robos coming at them. Sonic, Leela and K-9 try to hold them off while Tails and the Doctor build a Sonic Disruptor which weakens the copies, letting Tails join on the fight. Eggman and the Master then jump out of the ship in a double mech suit and try to kill them but the Doctor increases the disruptor to weaken the mech suit which causes the Master to fall out and tries to escape with the Phantom Ruby. The Doctor and Leela chase him as Sonic, Tails and K-9 battle Eggman. The Master uses the Power Ring to get the upper hand on Leela and the Doctor until Leela jabs him in the leg with her arrow and he falls off the hill. Eggman is defeated with his ship destroyed but he escapes with Metal Sonic. Relieved, Sonic and Tails celebrate their victory with the Doctor, Leela and K-9. Sonic asks K-9 if he kept a score. K-9 says that he estimates he and Sonic were tied in it. The Doctor takes the Phantom Ruby, bidding Sonic and Tails a farewell and throws the Phantom Ruby in the time vortex. The Master escapes in his TARDIS, hoping to never work with such a genius like Eggman again.

The story ends with Sonic and Tails in their modern forms, remembering their adventure with the Doctor, wondering if he will return, just as the Tenth Doctor materialises his TARDIS.

Story 2: Buried Memories

Stargazing with Knuckles and Amy, Sonic and Tails recall their adventure with the Doctor and Leela. Then a ship flies past Angel Island and crashes near the coast of Spagonia. Sonic, Tails and Amy go to look into it. Eggman and Sage meanwhile also notice the ship crashing and see it’s not from their planet so Eggman sends Sage out with Orbot and Cubot to Spagonia to spy on the wreckage. Meanwhile, the Tenth Doctor is in Spagonia to enjoy the scenery following the events series three. He can’t exactly remember what the planet is called, even the TARDIS is struggling. While walking about he bumps into Professor Tori who says she is in a hurry to get on the wreckage, then Sage bumps into him, disguised as a little girl with Orbot and Cubot as her toys. The Doctor can tell something isn’t right with Sage and offers to go with her to help her get to the wreckage. Sonic, Tails and Amy arrive and get to the ship, seeing its being cordoned off by GUN and though Tori argues for them to leave, Tails reminds her of his spot in Spagonia University and Professor Pickle wouldn’t be happy if Tori was being spoilt. Grumpily she lets them in and is then confronted by the Doctor and Sage, with the Doctor showing his psychic paper to her in that he’s “Dr John Smith of Soleana University”. Going inside, they all end up inside the control room where the Cyber Leader awakens and tries to grab the Doctor but Amy smacks it with her hammer, knocking it offline. The Doctor recognises Sonic and Tails and hugs them, saying it’s been a really long time since he last saw them. Tails notices Sage and calls her out, to which Sage flees with Orbot and Cubot while the Doctor dryly remarks that something really wasn’t right with Sage. Sonic and Tails are confused as to who he is, the Doctor tries jogging their memories until Tori comes in demanding they leave as she doesn’t want them damaging anything, though the Doctor urges her to destroy the Cyber Leader.

Going outside and made to leave, the heroes return to the TARDIS which Sonic and Tails recognise and realise he is the Doctor after he reminds them of Leela, K-9 and the Master. Going inside, Amy is stunned by the inside and realises Sonic and Tails were telling the truth about the Doctor.

Doctor: Here we are then! Blue box, big light on top! Don’t you see it now?

Tails: Yeah! It does!

Sonic: But it could just be an ordinary telephone box.

Doctor: Oh come on, have you seen a box like this anywhere else?

Sonic: Alright, you got me there! Is it still bigger on the inside?

Doctor: Oh yes! Much brighter as well!

He opens the TARDIS doors and Sonic, Tails and Amy’s eyes widen at seeing the bronze orange walls and yellow roundels while the time rotor in its blue and Green wonder connected to the ceiling.

Sonic: Whoa!

Tails: You changed every bit of it! Must’ve taken a lot of work!

Doctor: Oh not really, just flicking a few buttons, choosing which design and presto, new room!

Amy: Um, wow! You guys really weren’t kidding! A man with a magic box that was bigger on the inside!

Sonic: But. How can you be the Doctor?

Tails: Yeah. The Doctor we met was-

Doctor: Tall? Curly? Wore a big colourful scarf and travelled with Leela and K-9?

Tails: Yes! It really is you!

Sonic: Sweet! Loving the suit and sneakers, Doc!

The Doctor says he came to Spagonia to have a bit of time out from his adventures but the Cyber Ship has him worried and then asks them who Sage was to which Tails explains she’s Eggman’s Ai daughter, with Amy remarking that she’s gonna have lots of issues if she’s stuck with Eggman. Sonic guesses Eggman sent her to look into the Cyber Ship, asking what the Doctor knows. The Doctor explains the Cybermen were humans once until they desperately tried to survive the winter on their home planet and turned themselves into cyborgs, Sonic noting it’s Eggman going to the extreme. Tails believes Tori will take the Cyber Leader to the university where she can study it. Tails and Amy think they can get to it because they know Professor Pickle. They leave the TARDIS for the university, not seeing Sage, Orbot and Cubot watching them with Eggman looking on through a hologram in shock at the TARDIS. Sage recalls the Doctor being familiar with the Cybermen and tells Orbot and Cubot to keep an eye on them while she goes back to the Cyber Ship. Sage waits for the Cybermen to be removed and then accesses the ship’s computer, finding that the Cybermen had come to her planet in search of the Master Emerald after battling and defeating the Black Arms, who told them of the Master Emerald. Sage passes this back to Eggman who is interested and wants to talk to the Cyber Leader.

In the university, Tori has had the Cybermen set up in her own office and at first thinks they are astronauts and tries to remove the cloth until the Doctor comes in telling Tori not to do that and that they have to be destroyed. Professor Pickle has come and while he’s not at all happy about the fuss he wants to hear out the Doctor. Sonic and Tails explain he helped them stop Eggman years ago and if what the Doctor is saying is true then Eggman should not get his hands on the Cybermen’s technology. Sage sneaks in and accesses the Cyber Leader’s memories. Conversing with the Cyber Leader inside, Sage offers to take it to her father who can help them in their quest to survive. The Cyber Leader agrees and Sage wakes up the others. The Cybermen try to leave but Sonic, Tails and Amy battle them, showing to be quite strong enough for them. The Cyber Leader notices Professor Pickle and grabs him, saying that logically taking a hostage can defuse the battle and turn it in their favour. The Doctor tells everybody to stop fighting and Sage appears, telling the Doctor she doesn’t want to harm Professor Pickle but will if they keep fighting. The Doctor gets out his sonic screwdriver and disrupts Sage’s hologram which weakens the Cybermen. The battle continues until Eggman, angry with Sage for failing, sends Metal Sonic and a few Egg Fighters to grab the Cybermen and flee. Amy sees Orbot and Cubot trying to hide and she and Sonic catch them. Amy almost crushes them with her hammer when they refuse to tell where Eggman is. They explain he’s hiding in a mountain base near Kingdom Valley. Sonic suggests they fly there in the Tornado but the Doctor wants to know why the Cybermen are here so he tells Sonic and Tails to go ahead while he and Amy look into the Cyber Ship. While flying to Kingdom Valley, Tails laments to Sonic about Sage working with Eggman despite her civility with them. Sonic says he can see she’s got good in here and he won’t stop until she sees what’s right. Tails agrees, hoping that Sage can help everybody live better with her advancement.

The Doctor and Amy return to the Cyber Ship with Tori where the Doctor gains access to the computer. Amy sees that these Cybermen came from a different world than Mondas, with the Doctor explaining the Cybermen will prey upon the weak with promise of survival. Amy feels bad for those who felt being a Cyberman was their only way to live. To go that far meant you had to be desperate. She asks the Doctor if the Cybermen were instead truly a force for good and didn’t remove emotions would the Doctor had accepted them? The Doctor says in many ways, people do adapt with cybernetics to live, cybernetics can be used for good. It’s on the Cybermen who have this horrid mindset of removing all emotion to live. Same with Eggman.

Amy: If these Cybermen at least let people keep their emotions then they’d be seen as the good guys, wouldn’t they?

Doctor: Well. You see Amy, cybernetics can be used for good. You and me have seen it ourselves. It’s people like the Cybermen who abuse that potential, twisting it to suit their own cold goals. To them they’ve mastered survival and think all life must be like them, no matter how better off others are. Eggman is the same.

Amy: How do you mean?

Doctor: Well look at him, he’s a genius! If he were really a doctor then he’d be helping out in medicine research, actually making people better, like a doctor would! But no, he just abuses that title, the tools he has and makes metal monsters. He and the Cybermen are no different.

Finding that the Cybermen were looking for the Master Emerald the Doctor enquires about it and Amy explains that it’s a powerful gem Knuckles guards. The Doctor theorises that the Cyber Leader will explain this to Eggman and will try to take it again. He asks her if Knuckles has any friends he can call upon for help.

Meanwhile, Sage is scolded by Eggman for being so reckless and he wouldn’t want her being a waste like his other creations. Sage nervously accepts her mistake and offers to awaken the Cybermen. Going back to the Cyber Leader, Sage awakens it and briefly sees into its old memories. He was a humanoid called Diurg. Diurg had a family. The Cyber Leader talks with Eggman who explains he knows why the Cybermen are here and offers a deal, if he helps them get the Master Emerald they can share their technology with him. The Cyber Leader sees the logic in working with Eggman, whatever knowledge he has of the Master Emerald will be beneficial to the Cybermen’s efforts. Sage can tell it’s holding back something and sees to find out. It’s then Sonic and Tails arrive and start battling with the Egg Fighters. The Cyber Leader notes that these aliens could prove to be problematic for the Cybermen were they to ever come to the planet in full, desiring to study them. Eggman won’t wait though, he wants to get the Master Emerald now. Sonic and Tails see Eggman leave in his ship and thinks of pursuing him in the Tornado until the Doctor arrives with the TARDIS, telling them to get in. The Doctor materialises the TARDIS on Angel Island where Sonic and Tails see that he and Amy have gathered the Chaotix with Knuckles, filling him in on the Cybermen’s plans to take the Master Emerald. They all make a stand. On the way to Angel Island Sage confronts the Cyber Leader about his plans after he takes the Master Emerald. He explains that he will make contact with Cyber Control and they will harvest Sage’s planet of its resources and study its artefacts to further enhance the Cybermen. Sage then questions if he remembers his family. The Cyber Leader pauses and goes through his memory, finding that Sage unlocked memories of his old life. He freezes and begins to question where his wife and child are. Sage asks what it’s like, to be a father and love your child.

Sage: Do you remember your family?

Cyber Leader: Memory…new memory found. Unlocked by independent Ai Sage. This memory is old. But familiar. Diurg was my name.

Sage: Diurg. Yes. Your wife called you that. Your daughter called you dada.

Cyber Leader: Coranyder and Jukinda. They were this unit’s former companions. Family.

Sage: Diurg. What’s it like? To be a father? Did you love your child?

Cyber Leader: Father. Child. The role of a father-me-is to provide support to child-Jukinda. Support-care, feed, protect. L-l-l-love.

Sage: Love. Yes. Protect. I wish father did the same for me.

Cyber Leader: Error in unit’s brain system-I r-remember! Coranyder! Jukinda!

Sage: Diurg? What’s wrong?

Cyber Leader: Cyber Unit’s memory corruption! Memory purge uploading-no! No!

The Cyber Leader falls on his knees and grabs for Sage but can’t touch her, which makes him angry. Sage tries to calm the Cyber Leader and tries to reconnect with him but she’s frightened by what she sees and goes offline.

Eggman sends in his first lot of Egg Fighters to take the Master Emerald. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles turn super and destroy Eggman’s ship, though several Egg Fighters escape hence Amy and the Chaotix fight them. Eggman jumps out in a mech suit and grabs the Doctor and the TARDIS, hoping to take him away so he can find out how he’s changed his appearance and take the secrets of time travel with him. The Doctor groans at how all these years later and Eggman’s still as loud as ever. He then activates an EMP which disables Eggman’s mech suit. Eggman calls for Sage and slams her for not answering him. The Doctor notes he’s not winning a dad of the year award. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles turn back to normal, thinking they’ve destroyed the Cybermen. Until the Cyber Leader along with a few damaged Cybermen appear and grab the Master Emerald. The Cyber Leader is angry and swears revenge on the Cybermen, absorbing the Master Emerald’s power, becoming a bigger, grotesque looking Cyberman while the rest of the Cybermen are absorbed onto his body, the Master Emerald embedded in his chest. Angel Island falls and the Cyber Leader uses his new power to call out to Cyber Control, demanding they come and answer for what they did. Eggman grumbles at having to work with Sonic again to save the day. The Doctor is confused to this until Sage finally reappears, going through with them that she saw everything Diurg went through in becoming a Cyberman to save his family. Sonic sighs and asks the Doctor if there’s any way of reversing what has been done to which the Doctor bitterly says no. The most they can do now is putting Diurg out of his misery. Sonic says he can try drawing power from the Master Emerald to turn super again and stop him. He does this and he and the Cyber Leader are evenly matched. Sage has an idea.

Super Sonic is called back while Tails, Knuckles and Amy distract the Cyber Leader until Sage gets inside his head and Super Sonic takes the Doctor to the Master Emerald. Touching it, the Doctor makes telepathic contact with Sage and the Cyber Controller. They find out Diurg was seen as beneficial to the Cybermen’s battles in the universe. Diurg agreed to be converted on the condition his wife and daughter were spared. Upon conversion his family were then converted. The Doctor is sorry to him and notes that’s how cruel the Cybermen can be. Sage notes that it is believed an afterlife exists and asks Diurg if he would be with his family again. Diurg agrees and Sage terminates his core, thus he dies. His body returns to normal and the heroes gather in thought. Sonic could hear everything as well and is remorseful.

Eggman escapes with Orbot and Cubot but Sage looks at him bitterly and begs him to never sacrifice her or take her for granted. Unnerved, Eggman promises but privately wonders just how advanced he made Sage.

With the Master Emerald back in place, the Doctor offers to take Tails back to the Tornado. They all go, Knuckles as well wanting to see the TARDIS interior. While doing this, Sonic asks how many times the Doctor has gone up against those like the Master and the Cybermen. The Doctor says lots of times. Sonic can’t help but smile at the Doctor, admiring his will in continuing to fight for good. The Doctor can say the same about Sonic, he’s not met that many as young and focussed as him and his friends. Reaching the Tornado, the Doctor says goodbye to them, watching them fly in the Tornado before he leaves in the TARDIS. The story ends with Silver hiding with him annoyed at how many times his future is going to keep getting messed around with, flying away upon being found by a Dalek.

Final Story: Dalek Future

This story sees Silver the Hedgehog in his future once again in turmoil. He recalls happily making a pie and then suddenly the Daleks appeared and everybody was being murdered. We see Silver trying to avoid being captured by the Daleks, who chase him through the city. Silver manages to kill a Dalek but is almost killed by the others. He finally escapes to the sewers and wonders how far back did the past change. Before he opens the Warp Ring he’s surprised as the TARDIS then materialises with the Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz coming out, confused as to where they are with the TARDIS itself not giving the Doctor an answer until she sees Silver and realises she’s back on Sonic’s world. Silver is stunned she knows Sonic and asks if he’s sent her to help. The Doctor says nobody sent her but she guesses that by Silver’s question things must be wrong. Silver gives her and Yaz a lift out of the sewer for them to see the Daleks. Shocked, the Doctor asks how long the Daleks have been on the planet for, confused when Silver says they just appeared and the planet changed, telling her that this is a annoying thing that happens to his future. Interested, the Doctor offers to take Silver in the TARDIS to find out more, but it’s then the sewer moves. Getting inside the TARDIS, they watch from inside as the TARDIS is brought to an old Eggman base where Sage, Shadow and Omega are waiting for them. Recognising Sage, the Doctor steps out with Silver and Yaz. Yaz brings a taser and baton just in case though they say there’s no need to be worried, Sage isn’t working for the Daleks. Silver asks how he can trust her, she said to him she’d make sure Eggman would win in the future. Sage reminds him that she’s got Shadow and Omega with here, if she was against him then they wouldn’t be here. Omega annoyingly accepted the truce with Sage and Shadow knows Sage is the lesser of two evils here. With Shadow being the oldest here he tells the Doctor and Yaz what happened: in Sonic’s time, the Daleks sent out a virus on his planet which killed most of the populace save for Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Amy, several GUN staff and robotic lifeforms. The Daleks then took over the planet and everybody tried to fight but the Daleks killed them. Sonic almost got to the Master Emerald but was killed.

Silver: Wait. These Daleks have been in control for two hundred years!?

Shadow: Yes, and they’ve left their mark.

Doctor: And with the Emeralds in their slimy little tentacles it’s no wonder they’ve changed the course of history in the universe!

Yaz: Doctor are these emeralds really that powerful?

Doctor: Yaz you have no clue. The Power Rings have probably been handy for them as well.

Shadow: Yes. They’ve found out how to duplicate them and because of that their casings are a lot tougher to crack open.

Sage: I only wish I was strong enough to have stopped them.

Shadow explains it’s been long since he remembered the date, it’s why he found Sage, who explains this occurred two hundred years ago. The Doctor is happy to help since with the TARDIS they can now go back and stop the Daleks. Just as they are about to though the Daleks swarm the hideout. Shadow is shot but gets back up. During the battle the Doctor gets Yaz and Silver in the TARDIS, reminding Yaz which control to de-materialise the TARDIS. Omega grabs the Doctor and flees with her and Shadow, trying to reach an old warehouse to gather enough weapons and find Sage, but the Daleks manage to shoot Shadow and kill Omega with a Special Weapons Dalek. The Doctor tries to help Shadow up but the Daleks shoot him again and they subdue the Doctor. They demand to know where the TARDIS and she snidely suggests Skaro. In the TARDIS Yaz is worried for the Doctor though Silver tries to calm her, saying that they can find her with the TARDIS. Sage then appears inside the TARDIS, explaining the Doctor has been caught by the Daleks with Shadow. They look on the screen and find her and Shadow being taken on board the Dalek saucer which is to go to Onyx Island, the future Angel Island. Silver asks Sage if she can infiltrate the Daleks technology to find the Doctor. Sage says she’s tried that and in all these years she hasn’t gotten past the Dalek firewall. Yaz sighs in annoyance, she never wanted to see the Daleks conquer a planet after her encounters with them and all the Doctor told her. She is sorry to Silver that his future has been ruined again. He says he’s learnt by now there is a way to undo it, they just need to wait for the moment they see the Doctor.

On the saucer, the Doctor is brought to the Supreme Dalek who says that the Daleks have conquered a vast amount of the universe thanks to the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald. With them they have replicated the Kaled DNA and made more Daleks. The Doctor however guesses things haven’t worked out for the Daleks since they have caught Shadow to try and harness his immortality because the Daleks cannot stand losing. The Supreme Dalek says the Doctor is correct and wants her to help experiment on Shadow, if she refuses then as soon as the TARDIS appears they will kill her friends. The Doctor reluctantly agrees but whispers to Shadow that they still have a chance of escape. Shadow isn’t so certain, there’s so few left on the planet now. The Doctor reminds him that so long as the TARDIS is out there then they have a chance.

The saucer lands at Onyx Island where the Doctor and Shadow are taken towards the holding cell until the TARDIS materialises. The Daleks surround it and demand whoever is in there to come out. Shadow, realising what Silver is gonna do, thanks the Doctor and shatters his cuffs and starts fighting the Daleks. Silver opens the Warp Ring and drags the Doctor through into the TARDIS, the Doctor hugged by Yaz. The Doctor bitterly leaves Shadow, with Sage giving the Doctor the exact date the Daleks spread the virus. The Supreme Dalek, realising what the Doctor is up to, sends a squad of Daleks in time to follow her.

The Doctor goes back a few days earlier so she can properly find Sonic. Sage reveals Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy were battling Eggman and Metal Sonic over a Chaos Emerald. The Doctor materialises the TARDIS on the Chaos Emerald, surprising everybody, more so as Silver comes out and helps turn the battle around by tearing apart a few robots with Yaz joining the fight. The Doctor comes out with Sage who manages to disable the rest of the robots, surprising Eggman and Earlier Sage. Sonic and Tails are even further surprised the Doctor is a woman now, confessing it never occurred to them she could do that. Future Sage calls for a truce, with her and Silver explaining the Daleks. Eggman is getting fed up of more aliens trying to take his planet. The Doctor explains that though she has the TARDIS she doesn’t know if it’s just a lone Dalek saucer or a whole fleet. Eggman offers to go with her but the Doctor isn’t up for an evil genius like him in her TARDIS. However, Tails gets a call from Rouge who explains a group of Daleks have started raiding GUN, trying to get Shadow. Guessing they want two Shadows, the Doctor gets Sonic and co in the TARDIS and leaves Eggman and Earlier Sage, who Future Sage tells to be weary of Eggman. Getting to GUN, the heroes battle the Daleks who prove to be hard for Sonic, Tails and Shadow to spin-dash. We get this big battle as Sonic, co and GUN fight the Daleks. After defeating them the Doctor continues her plan.

Inside the TARDIS the Doctor finds that indeed the Daleks have a fleet coming towards Sonic’s planet. The Doctor reminds Silver of how he saved her and takes them back before going with Sonic in the TARDIS where they materialise inside the lead saucer. They confront the Supreme Dalek and Sonic says if the Daleks ever thought of giving up on a planet they better give up on his. The TARDIS doors open and Super Tails, Super Knuckles, Super Silver come out and tear through the Dalek saucers with Sonic turning super, Silver having used the Warp Ring to return to the TARDIS. The Dalek ships are destroyed and the heroes celebrate. Future Sage fades away while Eggman and Earlier Sage sneak away. Returning, the heroes thank the Doctor for coming to help them. She says she isn’t somebody who’d turn away those in need of help. She tells Sonic to keep living his best life and offers Silver a trip back to his time, with it ending with him, her and Yaz smiling as they see a happy future for Silver.

That’s the end of the crossover. I thought I’d make it clear that in these crossovers Metal Sonic does not get defeated like he was in the DC crossover because that was dumb. I also wanted to make sure these crossovers didn’t tamper with the lore and stayed true. I know some might not like the Thirteenth Doctor’s involvement but let’s be real, they’d want her to be in the crossover so I had her in it.

Backup Stories

Dark Dreams: This sees the Chaotix investigating a strange occurrence in a mansion where the residents have disappeared. While there they find the Twelfth Doctor who is also trying to find out about the missing residents. Going inside they find the mansion was built on top of a statue of Ariem the Dream Deity, with the Doctor and Espio seeing that the statue has been treated with care, with the Doctor and Vector guessing the residents must’ve worshipped Ariem to give them good dreams. It’s then strange creatures with big lobster and crab like claws start coming after them. The Chaotix try to fight them but find they are too difficult to stop. Escaping upstairs the Doctor is almost grabbed by a Kantroffari but Espio stabs it with his kunai. Getting to the loft, the Doctor explains to the Chaotix that the Kantroffari attach themselves to somebody’s face and traps them in a dream world as they start killing them. He’s confused as to why these claw like creatures are appearing. Charmy and Vector wonder if because the residents worship Ariem the Kantroffari have corrupted their dreams. The Doctor then gets it, they must be bringing their nightmares to life. The Doctor gets Espio to turn invisible and run through the mansion to find the residents and bring them here. Espio finds them in the garden house and brings them back where the Doctor and Vector tear the Kantroffari off their faces with the Chaotix killing them. With this done the Chaotix are paid well and thank the Doctor for his help.

Raid on GUN:

This sees the Eighth Doctor meeting Shadow, Rouge and Omega. The TARDIS materialises inside a GUN base and after stepping out the Doctor is surrounded by GUN soldiers. He at first believes he’s in a UNIT base until Shadow and Rouge appear which tells him he’s back on Sonic’s planet. Taken to an interrogation room the Doctor is questioned by Commander Tower, wanting to know how he got in and why a police officer would sneak into GUN. The Doctor says he’s no policeman and is more interested in talking to Shadow and Rouge as it’s rare to talk to those like them. Shadow and Rouge go in and ask the Doctor many questions of which he says for some reason the TARDIS brought him here, he doesn’t know why. Shadow is suspicious of him still to which the Doctor tells him he’s been to this planet before and helped Sonic and Tails stop Eggman and he can tell that Shadow and Rouge aren’t at all aligned with Eggman.

Shadow is curious of the Doctor, he can see that he’s been around for a while and has that look that he recognises. He’s seen and done things that many won’t get. The Sontarans then come and battle GUN, wanting to steal their Chaos Emerald and see their worth in battle. The Doctor gets free and gathers all non combatant personnel to a safer room where he watches GUN battling the Sontarans and watches Shadow and Rouge kill as many Sontarans as they can. Omega then joins the fight and helps turn the tide against the Sontarans but some manage to get into the vault where the Chaos Emerald is. The Doctor goes in and closes the door, using a radio to get to Shadow that the Sontarans are in. The Sontarans want the Chaos Emerald to power up their cloning machine so they can increase the cloning. The Doctor says that they are so bloodthirsty they don’t think of choosing reason first. The Sontarans are about to kill the Doctor until Shadow comes in and kills them. Shadow sees the Doctor could have taken the Chaos Emerald but didn’t, meaning he truly was here to help. The Doctor returns to the TARDIS and Shadow and Rouge go with him, wanting to see inside. Rouge is wowed and thinks we’re she a gothic queen this would be her home while Shadow finds it rather relaxing. The Doctor’s mention of time travel does interest Rouge who asks Shadow if he thought about going back. Shadow smiles and says though it hurts, he’s moved on and has made peace with Maria. He asks the Doctor if he can get him to the cat charity he works at, he was running late, for which the Doctor agrees and takes him there, where he chuckles with Rouge as they watch Shadow tend to the cats. The Doctor tells Rouge to be good with him and leaves. For where the Eighth Doctor is, he’s earlier on his life.

Blazing Dummies:

This has the Sixth Doctor and Peri arrive on the Sol Isles where the Doctor is confused as to where they are though Peri looks at a few plants and reckons they must at least be in South America having recognised the plants. However they are left in doubt when Marine the Raccoon appears and asks if they’re lost. Playing along, the Doctor and Peri go with her to Blaze’s castle where Blaze is surprised to meet the pair of them and wonders if the Doctor is a magician judging by his coat. The Doctor tuts at this but Peri finds it funny though they ask where they are for which Blaze explains they’re on the Sol Isles. She says strange things have been going on like multiple shops have been broken into and there’s been traces of gunfire. Looking into it the Doctor and Peri find that the shops in question are toy shops and cloths ships where multiple plastic items are gone. Realising it’s the Nestene Consciousness the Doctor tells Blaze to get everybody on the island to shut themselves in. After this the Autons try to take the castle but Blaze and Marine fight them with help from Peri while the Doctor notices the Autons came from a lighthouse. Going into the lighthouse the Doctor scolds the Nestene and tells it to give up as it doesn’t stand a chance against Blaze. The Nestene tries to grab the Doctor but Blaze comes in and kills it by melting it. With this taken care of, the Doctor and Peri have Blaze and Marine take them back to the TARDIS with Blaze giving the Doctor and Peri royal badges as a symbol of eternal friendship.

Now how about character dynamics?

In the Classic story I can see Sonic at first being a bit behind on what the Doctor is talking about but comes to like him a lot with how he doesn’t let any of Eggman’s robots scare him, that and he gets angry when the Master tries to shatter the Doctor’s spirit. The Doctor finds Sonic a happy child whom he struggles to keep up with but finds he is a far more braver child than he thought. The Doctor also is impressed with Tails’s skills with tech at such a young age and says if he was still on Galifrey he’d get Tails into the academy. Tails is glad to meet a smart person like the Doctor that is fighting for good and not evil. Leela is a bit bewildered by Sonic but bonds with Tails and sees there is a strong soul in him that will shine someday and Tails likes how Leela is kind as well a strong. Both Sonic and Tails adore K-9, who comes to like the competition Sonic sets for him.

The Master at first sees Eggman as a buffoon who just makes candy coloured robots that can pop easily but realises that Eggman is not dumb and chooses to play along, though he admits he’s a little jealous Dr Eggman has invented these machines by himself. Eggman sees the Master as a mere tool he can dispose of once he’s done though he finds him a strange person.

For the modern cast, Modern Sonic likes the Tenth Doctor and has much banter with him, enjoying his new suit and trainers but realises he’s gone through a lot since he last saw him and holds a lot of respect for him. The Doctor also feels he can now really blend with Sonic though he is proud of how far Tails has come. The Doctor is a little weary of Amy with how she swings her hammer but ends up liking her as she shows her friendlier side and her caring nature. Knuckles is a little baffled by the Doctor though he is thankful for the help he’s giving and senses he’s far more older than he looks. Sage is somewhat curious of the Doctor, scanning him to see he is not human and finds the sheer strength he holds in character is almost admirable but something she envies.

For the final, Silver finds the Thirteenth Doctor a comforting figure who helps ease him with the annoyance he’s got over how his future is screwed about with. The Doctor is also soft with Shadow, remembering in their last encounter how he was a hedgehog with much to shed while reminding him that he shouldn’t lose faith. Yaz finds a friend in Silver in how he finds himself struggling in keeping up with time’s struggles but have the strength to do so because they feel it’s right. Sonic and friends are surprised that the Doctor is a woman as it never came to them that she could do that. The Doctor playfully teases them, saying she can get use to the shock, all the while showing great delight in Tails’s achievements and even asks Amy to let her have a swing of the hammer.

The Twelfth Doctor is protective of Charmy while giving Vector a good bit of advice in how to keep his mind together and not getting scared while teasing Espio with his spoon and let’s him use it to defeat Kantroffari.

The Eighth Doctor greatly respects Shadow and Rouge comes to love his snark and Shadow can tell the Doctor has been through a lot and is glad to meet somebody who is continuing his life despite the struggles. Shadow can tell the Thirteenth Doctor, despite her more energetic self, has a lot of weariness to her and urges her to be thankful for the friend she has.

The Sixth Doctor finds Marine a bit of a handful though Peri likes her. Blaze is a little annoyed by the Doctor’s recklessness but comes to like him as she sees he’s driven by passion for justice and admires Peri for her own heroics and skill in botany.

I say that’s it.

Freddy: That was a long crossover.

Teddy: You think it could work?

Well if they came to me and asked if they could do it, and they stuck with the idea, then sure. But if Flynn steals it then I’m gonna give him a good telling.

Well to those of you who did read this I hope you liked it. Let me know what you thought in the comments below guys!

Despite my lack of Whovian knowledge, the ideas for the stories are solid. They start off simply but effective and they escalate.

While there is the whimsy of Sonic, it isn't afraid to go dark like with Cyberman and stuff.

The interactions I believe are also spot on but again, can't fully judge due to lack of Wholedge (Dr. Who Knowledge, invented the word trademark XD)

I’m glad I made it accessible enough for you, the whole idea of these crossovers was to be fun but also be as light as I could on the lore of both franchises to be open for readers. I’m espescially happy at spreading it out with a Doctor per character like Ten with the Modern cast, Eight for Shadow and Six for Blaze. And hey, gotta go big in the end with the Daleks being the final baddie :)
