Hey guys it’s me, the Wandering Fox. As you may have seen a few weeks ago I did an essay on Sonic and how he can progress forward in the future. I briefly mentioned the DC crossover and it came in my mind that the next likely big crossover will come with Marvel comics.
Teddy: That’s a fair guess.
Freddy: But isn’t Sonic crossing over with SpongeBob, Avatar the Last Airbender, Minecraft and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
Yeah, but those are for Sonic Racing Crossworlds, I’m talking about comics. I mean, Marvel and DC are doing a crossover for the first time in almost a couple of decades, I can see SEGA wanting to have a piece of the Marvel pie and it’s where to go to after DC. And hey, they are eager to do one with Marvel, as Evan Stanley herself showed with her artwork.

Artwork by Evan Stanley.
However, Sonic hasn’t had it easy with crossovers, his first comic crossover with Sabrina the Teenage Witch is forgettable, then there’s the tastefully bad Mega Man crossovers which to me was Ian Flynn smashing everything he had against the wall in a desperate urge to be epic. Then we have the DC crossover and that should tell anybody if they’ve not seen through the mess of IDW Flynn needs to retire or cut himself back on working on so many things. Flynn writes Sonic as an asshole who flip flops between “I’m morally superior” to “Hey, I can totally outrace Flash!”, Flynn writes MemeBatman, not the actual Batman with how he EASILY figures out Shadow lost somebody by looking at him, or how he horribly wrote Lex Luthor and the Joker in the crossover with Lex assuming Knuckles has the same weaknesses as Superman and Lex assumed the Green Chaos Emerald was Kryptonite…without even researching it. Or the Joker not bothered by Shadow replacing Batman. Guess that’s what happens when you love Brian Michael Bendis’s work, huh?

Uh, we all freaked out Jon. And we’re still not happy you’re like this. Thanks Bendis.
Flynn: H-Hey!
Back to the point however. Sonic crossing over with Marvel is the next step, so obviously we have to take a look at what they would do, and then what they SHOULD do instead.
Teddy: Drum roll please!
Freddy rolled on the drums and Wandering Fox has a bored look and sticks on his “Cynical Crown”.
What they would do.
Oh, just like what they did with DC, it’ll be all about costuming the Sonic characters up as Marvel characters and it’ll be lazy like the DC idea. Let’s see, they’ll have Sonic as either Spiderman or Quicksilver cos to SEGA or Flynn the whole “Quippy hero must dress up as quippy hero” or “super fast character must costume as super fast character”. Knuckles will be painted green to be the Hulk. Amy would be Captain Marvel cos it’s the main girl as the girl Avenger. Tails will be Iron Man cos they forget Tails has powers and thinks “Oh, he’s a genius, gotta garb him up in an Iron Man suit”. the last part is a bit rich cos when I was younger I drawn Tails as Iron Man, but hey, I got older.
In regards to story, they’ll do a typical “Let’s go big right now” crossover cos you can’t start small like Batman and TMNT, gotta go big hey Flynn? Yeah, what’s the betting Thanos goes to get the Chaos Emeralds to replace the Infinity Stones and he snaps his fingers and the Sonic characters end up replacing the heroes for a while and Dr Robotnik is left in the background? Then we get Sonic vs Magneto or Green Goblin, Knuckles vs Red Hulk and so on, then we get the team up in a messy fight with Thanos? And who will be writing this? Mr Ian “I love creating evil green Sonic’s” Flynn. The same Ian Flynn who makes excuses for his bad writing by blaming SEGA despite admitting he’s free to write Sonic himself the way he wants, the same Ian Flynn who thinks Joker wouldn’t be angry Batman was replaced. The same Ian Flynn who has a cult following who believes he’s god. Yes, that is true, go on Bumbleking and go back to the early 2010s a guy with a Cutler Beckett icon said Ian’s god.
I’d rather Daniel Barnes do it, he at least is a lot more skilled as a writer and had no qualms with SEGA in writing the comic. Evan Stanley can’t do it cos she’s not that bright thanks to her believing Surge would’ve made things way harder for the Resistance in Sonic Forces which is laughable because Surge got her arse handed to her easily in the comics. Though still Ian will get it because everybody acts like he’s the best writer and Marvel comics is run by incredibly dumb people.
Freddy: Can I take the crown off?
Yes you can.
The crown’s gone and the Wandering Fox sighs.
Okay, sorry about that, had to get that out of the way. With that thought let’s look at.
What they should do.
Btw, these are my ideas, so Flynn, Marvel, SEGA, or Tom, think again before copying my work.
If it was up to me, I would cut out the entire “Let’s have the Sonic characters costume as the heroes” thing and just do a simple crossover first, like Batman and TMNT. If it were up to me it’d be Spiderman as he’s THE Marvel hero and is the marketable one as well, they’d have to cash in on Spidey first. Now, this can go in any way, and they are either;
Spiderverse with the Spot opening a doorway to Sonic’s world for either the Sinister Six or just Doc Ock to find resources to take over New York and kill Spiderman, hence you have them team up with Eggman to defeat Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Spiderman, Miles and Spider-Gwen, and I think this would be something they could end up doing if they want to avoid being too similar to the DC crossover.
Or, it’s a simple team up story in which Doc Ock opens a doorway to Sonic’s universe. Seeing Dr Robotnik, Otto admires him and offers him his help in killing Sonic in exchange for scientific knowledge and unique weapons while Eggman helps Otto in creating weapons to finally kill Spiderman. Hence we get a basic teamup of Spiderman finding Doc Ock and gets sent to Sonic’s universe where Sonic himself meets him. Spiderman struggles to traverse in Green Hill Zone but then gets use to it and helps Sonic defeat a robot group Eggman sent to him and Tails. Spiderman explains Doc Ock lured him to his secret base and mentioned he had somebody working with him. Guessing it’s Eggman, Sonic and Tails help Spiderman get to Eggman’s hideout where they think the other end of the portal is, only after battling him they find this Eggman was a robot amd they are seemingly killed in an explosion. They escape and Spider-Man’s mask is damaged, hence Tails takes it off to help patch him up, surprised at how young Peter is. Peter remarks he’s pretty young to be fighting Dr Eggman but Tails says he can’t let his age stop him from fighting evil and Sonic taught him to always stand up for himself. Sonic notes he’s not regretted that as Tails has had his back since. Peter says he had been alone in his fight once but he’s since had friends having his back, like the Avengers, Defenders, Yuri, Miles. He’s glad to see despite stars away from each other, there’s still good on other planets. They then find another portal and go to New York, where Eggman and Otto have taken it over with them creating Octo-Eggs, head like clamps that take over everybody. Sonic, Tails and Spiderman find Miles has managed to keep himself and his family safe and so they fight their way to Avengers Tower where Tails and Peter construct an EMP while Sonic and Miles fight the brainwashed Avengers. With the EMP ready, Sonic and Spiderman battle Doc Ock and Robotnik while Tails and Miles turn the emp on, freeing the Avengers abd a few people and getting them to help take apart the helmets. The EMP weakens the mech Ock and Robotnik are in but they still fight though they finally are beaten with Sonic and Spidey knocking them out. With New York saved, Sonic and Tails go home with Robotnik and thank Spidey for his help. Spidey takes Otto back to the island hoping there’s a way to cure him while Sonic and Tails give Robotnik to GUN. It ends with a hint of a sequel.
The story is basic, do a team up, don’t be complex.
If you want to go bigger from here, but staying steady go with the Fantastic 4. Everybody in the Marvel Universe wants to know who Sonic and Tails are and Reed Richards is curious, hence he and his family want to go over and see them, that and the family are concerned of Doctor Doom and those like him wanting to go there as well. Doctor Doom ends up being the baddie here as he is for sure there is something on Sonic’s planet that’s worth exploiting. The Fantastic 4 come through and find that the heroes are battling none other than Metal Sonic, who has created Metal Tails, Metal Knuckles and Metal Amy to take over the Angel Island. The Fantastic 4 help the heroes battle them and force them to retreat, explaining themselves to Sonic that they’re friends of Spiderman and want to know more of them. Sonic and Knuckles are a bit more eager to close the doorway as they don’t want any other baddies to handle though Reed Richards explains he’s here to make certain they know what Sonic is like and want to help him if any of their enemies want to come here. Doctor Doom then comes to the planet and meets with Metal Sonic, finding out about the Master Emerald. Doctor Doom wants its powers and goes with the duplicates and a few Doom Bots to get the Master Emerald, hence we get a big fight with Sonic and the Fantastic 4 fighting Metal Sonic and Doctor Doom. Doom gets on the Master Emerald and gains powers, with Metal Sonic turning super and combines himself. We get a big battle in which Metal Sonic and his team are defeated though not before they teleport away and Doctor Doom falls through a doorway back to his kingdom. Though they did it, the Fantastic 4 know well that Doom will be telling others of his trip, hence Sonic and co agree to meet the Avengers.

The next step would be The Avengers. The Avengers line-up would consist of Iron Man, Thor, Scarlet Witch, Cap, Wolverine, Jessica Drew, Hulk, and Black Panther. It’s here where you can start to go big and have your big epic action stuff though not without build-ups and focus on character. Doctor Doom however explains to the Cabal about Sonic’s planet and the power it has. The Cabal here is of him, Loki, Corvus Glaive, Proxima Midnight, and Osborn. Doom theorises that if they get the Chaos Emeralds then not only will they be powerful by themselves, but harnessing them together and the Power Rings and Red Star Rings will give them absolute control. The Sonic characters here consist of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Team Dark,. The Chaotix are left behind on Angel Island. The heroes and baddies battle it out over the Chaos Emeralds with a lot of the villains temporarily getting powers until they lose to a unique team up with the heroes. While this carries on though Doom is curious about Dark Gaia and tricks everybody in thinking they’ve won until Tails figures out they’ve been tricked. Sage meanwhile gets Robotnik out of jail and wants to save him from Dark Gaia, who Doom releases and harnesses the powers of to subjugate all heroes and villains. Those who get away are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Spiderman, Thor, Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Team Dark. This ends on a cliffhanger.

The finale has Silver coming to help a woman and a young teen who’s battling Dark Gaia monsters. It’s revealed the woman is Spider Girl, the daughter of Spiderman, and the teen is Franklin Richards, the son of Mister Fantastic and the Invisible Woman. Silver is surprised as the Marvel and Sonic universes are glitching around them and theorises time itself is collapsing. He and Mayday get to the Sol Isles where Blaze herself is noticing things aren’t right. Mayday is glitching in and out of existence so Silver builds a pair of temporal rings to keep her in place. With the Sol Emeralds helping him concentrate, Silver is able to open a warp ring and rescues Sonic and the others. Eggman and Sage are rescued as well. With Doctor Doom harnessing Dark Gaia’s powers, they think of Chip though Sonic thinks he wouldn’t be awakened as Dark Gaia is being controlled by Doom. Eggman wants to defeat Doctor Doom, as there’s only a single evil Doctor and that’s him. We get a big final fight with Eggman sending out his robots against Doctor Doom’s Doombots with the heroes having to fight their friends while Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles turn super to confront Doom. While this continues Team Dark and Silver and Mayday get to Doom’s base and start to sever his links to Dark Gaia. Doom is still strong and is giving the heroes a hard job until Scarlet Witch comes to their aid, helping warp reality around Doom to confuse him with Franklin helping break apart Doom’s powers and and Eggman helps the heroes give Doom a final deck which knocks him right out. The doorways between Sonic’s and the Marvel universes are collapsing but Franklin can close them but there will be no way of teaming up again. Sonic and his friends bid farewell to the Marvel heroes and leave with Eggman and Sage and Franklin closes the doorways, himself and Mayday returning to their places in time. It ends with the heroes thinking of each other and Mayday and Franklin go home to tell their parents of how they glitched out.
That’s how you ought to do it. Sonic and Marvel can team up but do it steadily. Doctor Doom harnessing Dark Gaia’s powers is in character as he has done things like this and what’s complete control over everything. Doctor Eggman getting in on the final fight is to try and have him stay in the fight and not be away like how he’s written in IDW. Mayday bring in there is my way of saying to Marvel “I’ll have her in it thank you”, and Franklin is that powerful as a character it’s easy to see him helping resolve things in the end.
Relationships
The crossovers have got to have some good relationships between the characters and it’s gotta be more than the generic stuff that you got with DC.
Sonic
I’d have Sonic be respectful though also likes to joke a little here and there. He’d get along with Iron Man and Human Torch and Spidey the most, mostly competitive with Johnny but isn’t a jerk about it and does a few combos with Johnny in their battles against the baddies, Johnny remarks he wouldn’t like to have Sonic’s quills prickling him. Sonic would be well stunned by Iron Man’s suit and chirps he’s glad Eggman doesn’t have tech like that and gives Tony a boost with a Power Ring and swaps a gauntlet with him to shoot a Doom Bot. He does joke to Spidey his webs don’t have the strength to contain him but they are hard to get out of the quills while Spidey makes a reminder to himself to find any hedgehogs that are being experimented on in case they turn out like Sonic.
Tails easily gets along with Spidey and relates to him on having been alone though found themselves finding strength in both their fists and minds and their friends. He’d also gush to Peter of his inventions which has him wowed at how young Tails is and invents things Peter himself wishes he could if he had the bucks for it. Tails gives Spiderman a new web substance he’s merged with a ring to let Spidey whip forward at lightspeed. Tails also gets along with Sue, them both the level headed members of their groups and having fun loving brothers, while Sue is quite generous and friendly to Tails and often shields him in invisibility to help him get to and defeat a foe.

Eggman’s relationship with Doc Ock is based on respect, Eggman admires Otto’s genius and shares his pain in dealing with a blue and red hero to battle, finding his octopus themed machines worth to merge his egg themed tech with, though he does see that the cybernetic in his back has constantly battled his mind here and there and Eggman does think of whether he should kill Otto or at least help kill what’s left of the man he once was so his cybernetics can take full control. Eggman however is annoyed by Doctor Doom trying to take over everything and teams up with Sonic to defeat him, with him noting he’s fed up of other foes trying to steal his thunder. Of the heroes Eggman finds Spiderman annoying though he realises that there’s a fearful sense to him which has Eggman get cockier with him, while he’s also greatly annoyed by Richards intellect he feels the urge to kill him just for being beside him.
Those would be the big relationships I would build on in the crossover, although Knuckles would greatly get along with Cap, Black Panther and Thor with all admiring each other for their dedication to guarding something sacred and helping the weak. Amy I think she’d help Wanda overcome her anxiety and always have faith in those who are her friends. Shadow I’d have him bond with Bruce Banner what in having experienced trauma but always try to focus their skill with focussing on doing good.
With Sonic and Marvel, I think they ought to try something that is far stronger than the DC crossover and it’d be cool if they at least focussed on just the single character with Marvel at first and then think of how to go big. I hope you guys at least like the ideas I had to offer. I’ll be going now, come on Teddy, Freddy, let’s go and let the readers think of the crossover we gave them.

This sounds solid. And you did it right, start small and build up from there. the right way
Very interesting here and do like your story ideas of how the Sonic/Marvel crossover stories work, start very small and then build up to a big one in the finale. I sure like the Sonic & Spidey one the best, since they're big favs of mine and of course, a small crossover story can work. ^^
Also like how you work in other characters in here.
