Media Essays: What If Sonic Characters Played Duel Monsters? (ft. Overkill-0526)

Title card

Crossovers are those kinds of things that have limitless potential. Just look at ANY fanfiction or fan art and you'll find all kinds of wacky ideas for crossovers. You even get official media that gives us wacky crossovers such as Batman/TMNT or Justice League/Power Rangers or RWBY/Justice League and many, many more. This essay is about one such crossover idea today, and that's "What if characters from Sonic the Hedgehog played Duel Monsters?" Yu-Gi-Oh! is the kind of premise that I feel is ripe for crossover potential since there are so many different archetypes and playstyles that you can try to match to characters from other franchises. And that's the subject of this essay. I'm teaming up with another fellow Sonic and Yu-Gi-Oh! fan in order to cover ten Sonic characters, five each, and decide what decks we think they would play.

As for my friend? It's none other than Overkill-0526 once again. Hey Overkill! Glad you could join me for another fun collab post.

Overkill: And I'm back. To give a little backstory, one day I messaged Mixedfan asking "What Yu-Gi-Oh! Decks would Sonic characters play?" What followed was a week long back and forth where we brainstormed decks for 86 Sonic characters across the various incarnations of the franchise. We're only going to talk about ten in total here because discussing 86 decks at once would be insane. We paired a deck with a character based on how each deck represents said character and just general vibes. It'll all make sense when we start discussing each deck.

Media Man: It sure will. I'll starts us off with...

1: Miles "Tails" Prower

Tails

Of course I have to start with my favourite Sonic character of all. If Tails was a duellist, he would unquestionably play the Raidraptor archetype.

Raidraptor - Rise Falcon

Now some of you might question my choice here. "Hang on, Raidraptor? Wouldn't that archetype be more fitting for the Battle Bird Armada than Tails?" Well...that's exactly why him playing Raidraptors is so perfect. It represents how Tails defeated the Battle Bird Armada and, in a way, he controls it now. But my thinking for choosing this archetype for Tails is for a few reasons:

1: The Raidraptors look like machines (despite being Winged Beast types). Tails builds machines, ergo they fit.

2: Raidraptors are flying machines. Tails builds machines and he can fly. Perfect!

and 3: Raidraptors are all about weak monsters ranking up into stronger monsters. Tails started off weak and unimpressive but after meeting Sonic and going on adventures with him, he's become more courageous, strong and capable. The Raidraptor archetype represents his growth from bullying victim to a hero in his own right.

So what would Tails' deck be like? His Raidraptor deck would definitely make heavy use of Rank-Up-Magic Spells in order to get out his best monsters and he'd definitely make use of protective or destructive tactics such as Raidraptor Readiness to prevent battle destruction or to protect his Life Points from any damage or using Raptor's Gust to blow away an activated Spell or Trap from his opponent's backrow. He'd also rely on search tactics to maintain hand advantage or to set up his aforementioned Rank-Up-Magic tactics such as Raidraptor - Nest.

Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon

His signature card I think would be Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon because of its many uses while his ace card would be Raidraptor - Rising Rebellion Falcon.

Raidraptor - Rising Rebellion Falcon

His deck would be built around getting that on the field and laying waste to his opponent. Other cards he'd have to throw off his opponent's game would be Raidraptor - Revolution Falcon - Air Raid, Raidraptor - Satellite Cannon Falcon and Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon and he'd make use of their destruction effects or effects to lower the attack points of his opponent's monsters.

All in all, I think Raidraptor is unmistakably the PERFECT archetype for Tails.

2: Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog: Speedroid

Speedroid Terrortop

This choice doesn't need much explanation. Of course the Fastest Thing Alive would use an archetype with "Speed" in its name. If you need more convincing, all the Speedroids are WIND attribute, and here's something Sonic says in Sonic and the Black Knight:

"I have no master, except the wind that blows free!"

I rest my case.

As for the deck itself, Speedroids specialize in swarming the field to Synchro summon into the Hi-Speedroids. Cards like Speedroid Terrortop, Speedroid Marble Machine and Speedroid Scratch are good tools to search out specific cards Sonic would need for his Synchro plays. Effective tuner monsters for the deck include Speedroid Red-Eyed Dice, which can change a Speedroid's level ranging from 1 to 6, and Speedroid CarTurbo, which can special summon itself to the field if there is a WIND monster on the field (which there will be). Speedroid Fuki-Modoshi Piper is able to excavate cards based on the number of WIND monsters he controls so that Sonic can both thin out his deck and add one of those cards to his hand.

Some of the Hi-Speedroids Sonic would have are pretty nasty, such as Hi-Speedroid Kitedrake, which can either nuke the field or negate all of the opponent's monster effects as soon as its summoned. There is also Hi-Speedroid Clear Wing Rider, which can recycle monsters in the graveyard back into the deck and potentially wipe the opponent's board based on a dice roll. Some of the Hi-Speedroids would also be very effective combo extenders for Sonic. Hi-Speedroid Cork Shooter can special summon the Speedroids used for its summon, allowing for further Synchros. Hi-Speedroid Hagoita can tribute itself to increase every monster's level by one. Then it can resummon itself, provided Sonic is controlling a Speedroid tuner.

Clear Wing Synchro Dragon

But of course, the spearhead of the deck would be the Clear Wing Dragons. Clear Wing Synchro Dragon can negate the effects of level five of higher monsters and gain their attack points. Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon can negate any monster's effects and gain the attack of any level five or higher monster it battles. Crystal Clear Wing Synchro Dragon can be devastating with its ability to negate a monster effect, gain its attack points, and then become immune to the opponent's monster effects. It can also negate spell and trap effects, so it basically has an omni negate effect. Sonic could also utilize other strong Synchro monsters, such as Stardust Dragon or Satellite Warrior.

There's one more thing to mention regarding Sonic as a duellist, and that's Super Sonic. If Sonic achieves his Super form, he would gain the destiny draw ability. Basically, he could will whatever he needs to the top of his deck just like Atem at the end of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

Adding onto the speed parallels, Synchro summoning is often associated with turbo duels, which are card games played at high speeds (you thought I was going to say motorcycles, weren't you?). It only makes sense that Sonic would utilize the summoning mechanic associated most with speed.

Ace Monster: Crystal Clear Wing Synchro Dragon

3: Blaze the Cat

Blaze the Cat

I bet everybody reading this post can already guess what archetype Blaze would play. And if your guess was "Fire King", you'd be correct.

Fire King High Avatar Garunix

I mean come on. FIRE. KING. Do I need to explain why this is so perfect for Blaze? Oh yeah, I do, so let's explain it. XD

Blaze has fire powers and she's a princess, so of course her chosen Duel Monsters deck would be a fire-based archetype and the fact the archetype is called "Fire King" at least represents Blaze's royal status as a princess. The Fire King archetype relies on destruction tactics in order to trigger effects or summon powerful monsters, which also fits since Blaze sees her powers as a curse, she's a destructive force of nature when angry and she has a powered up form with Burning Blaze. Seriously, this archetype couldn't fit Blaze any better. It's like it was made for her.

Blaze's deck would be your typical Fire King deck with no real differences to it. She'd abuse the archetype's primary gimmick and rely a lot on destroying her own cards to trigger effects that benefit her side or disrupt the opponent's play. She'd also make good use of the Spell Card Fire King Island as that can help her Special Summon powerful Winged Beast monsters or search another Fire King card by destroying another in her hand.

Sacred Fire King Garunix

Her signature card would be Sacred Fire King Garunix while her ace monster would be Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings.

Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings

I can also see Fire King Courtier Ulcanix being another signature card and would be Blaze's go-to for setting up an XYZ summon with its Level changing effect and also another means to maintain hand advantage by adding a card to her hand after destroying another. Being an XYZ-based archetype, Blaze would also be reliant on getting monsters of the same level on the field so she can XYZ summon her ace and potentially wipe the opponent's board for game.

This wasn't a hard one to decide whatsoever. If Blaze was a Yu-Gi-Oh! character, she'd play a Fire King deck, no question about it.

4: Knuckles the Echidna

Knuckles the Echidna

Knuckles the Echidna: Gem-Knight

Gem-Knight

Gem-Knight might not seem like a good fit for somebody rougher than the rest of them like Knuckles. However, once you take into consideration his connection to the Master Emerald and his ancestry to a warrior culture, it starts to make more sense that Knuckles would play a deck comprised of gem-based warriors.

Gem-Knight is a well supported archetype that has been featured in both the Arc-V anime and the Duel Terminal storyline. The deck focuses on Fusion summoning with a high emphasis on recycling effects to sustain continuous Fusions.

To go over the recycling effects, Gem-Knight Quarts can add a Gem-Knight from the graveyard back to the hand if its used for a fusion summoning, except itself. Quartz can also be discarded to add Scatter Fusion to the hand, a continuous Fusion card that can fuse monsters from the deck, but if it leaves the field, all the monsters it summoned will be destroyed. Gem-Knight Nepyrim can be special summoned to the field by discarding a card. Nepyrim is also an on summon search card. Even the Archetype's original Fusion card, Gem-Knight Fusion can banish a Gem-Knight from the Graveyard to add itself back to the hand.

Gem-Knight Hollowcore

One of the deck's key cards is Gem-Knight Hollowcore, which can send a Gem-Knight Fusion from the deck to the Graveyard to summon itself to the field. Hollowcore can also banish three Gem-Knights from the Graveyard to omni-negate and boost other Gem-Knight's attack points by 1000.

One weakness of Gem-Knight is that many of their Fusion monsters require specific materials. For example, Gem Knight Topaz can attack twice and deal effect damage based on a destroyed monster's attack, but it needs Gem-Knight Tourmaline, a normal monster, as a fusion material. However, Knuckles could circumvent that shortcoming with Gem Knight Master Diamond Dispersion, a Fusion monster that can remove itself from the field to special summon up to three non-Rock Gem-Knights from the Extra Deck (and/or Graveyard), ignoring any summoning conditions. What's even better is that Master Diamond Dispersion can be summoned from the Graveyard when a Gem-Knight Fusion monster is destroyed by battle. That's pretty nutty, but the special summons are not counted as Fusion summons, so Knuckles wouldn't be able to summon back any monsters summoned from the Extra Deck if they leave the field.

It is worth noting that Gem-Knights can achieve an FTK through the use of Gem-Knight Lady Lapis Lazuli and Gem-Knight Master Diamond to deal 8000 effect damage in one turn. I won't go into detail on how it works because I don't see Knuckles employing that strategy. I feel like he wouldn't try to win in a way that didn't involve attacking the opponent head on.

Gem-Knight Master Diamond Dispersion

Ace Monster: Gem-Knight Master Diamond Dispersion

5: Metal Sonic

Metal Sonic

Now obviously, this guy's going to use a machine based deck. He's a robot, what other reason do I need here? But which one? There are loads of Machine-type archetypes out there from Cyber Dragons to Meklords to Barrel Dragon and many MANY more. In my opinion, there is only one archetype that fits Metal Sonic...and that's Ancient Gears.

Ancient Gear Golem

Some of you might disagree with me because Metal Sonic isn't exactly "ancient", so why did I pick Ancient Gears? That's easy. Ancient Gear is an archetype consisting of powerful machines that can't be stopped once they begin attacking. Doesn't that sound a lot like Metal Sonic in how once he starts attacking, he's hard to stop? Also the Ancient Gear's most powerful monster, Chaos Ancient Gear Giant, is a Fusion of four Ancient Gear monsters that forms an all powerful machine. Isn't that awfully similar to how Metal Sonic combined with the data of four different teams of characters to become an all powerful machine in Sonic Heroes? That enough tells me Ancient Gear is the right archetype for Metal Sonic.

His deck would be the more modern kind of Ancient Gear deck, which means he'll be including all the new support such as Ancient Gear Tanker, Ancient Gear Dark Golem and more but he'd still have some classic ones available such as Ancient Gear Wyvern. His playstyle would be built around gathering his resources as quickly as possible in order to Fusion Summon Chaos Ancient Gear Giant and start wrecking the opponent's field as quickly as possible.

Ancient Gear Fusion

His signature card would be Ancient Gear Fusion and his ace (obviously) would be Chaos Ancient Gear Giant.

Chaos Ancient Gear Giant

Because it has no protection against monster effects that happen outside of the Battle Phase, Metal Sonic would run cards like Infinite Impermanence to protect it and he'd also use Ancient Gear Fortress to prevent his opponents from destroying his Ancient Gear monsters the turn they're summoned, which in turn makes it even harder to disrupt his field. Oh and he'd definitely use the Trap Card Ancient Gear Reborn to bring back his destroyed monsters, a perfect metaphor for how Metal Sonic keeps coming back no matter how many times he's defeated.

How appropriate for a robot overlord to play a deck that lets him command a robot kingdom!

6: Amy Rose

Amy Rose

Amy Rose: Melodious

Mozarta the Melodious Maestra

If you don't think Amy should play the Melodious archetype because she hasn't demonstrated any interest in music, neither did Zuzu in Arc-V. To actually add on some parallels, both Amy and Zuzu are hot-headed pink girls who have a habit of bonking people upside the head with blunt instruments. Therefore, everything checks out.

If you want even more convincing, both Zuzu and Amy have famously confused the main character with someone else. Zuzu confused Yuto for Yuya because she couldn't tell that the two of them have different hair styles (to be fair, no one in Arc-V could do that). Amy has historically confused both Shadow and Silver for Sonic because she more than likely has some form of color vision deficiency.

Getting into the deck, the Melodious archetype is comprised of of LIGHT attribute Fairy monsters that specialize in fusion summoning. The Melodious archetype has a number of cards that can fusion summon, such as Soprano the Melodious Songstress, Fortissimo, Ostinato and Melodious Concerto.

Melodious also has access to Pendulum monsters. Refrain the Melodious Songstress has a Pendulum scale of one and can act as an on summon searcher. If Refrain is in the Extra Deck when Amy summons a Melodious Fusion monster, she can place it in a Pendulum zone. While in the Pendulum zone, Refrain can Foolish Burial a Melodious monster to provide an attack boost to a Melodious Fusion monster. Couplet the Melodious Songstress, a scale nine pendulum monster, can special summon a level four Melodious monster if it is added to the hand in any way other than the normal draw phase. Couplet can be put in the Pendulum zone in the same way as Refrain. Couplet's Pendulum effect lets it search out a Melodious spell or trap if Amy controls only Melodious monsters or none at all.

One particularly strong setup Amy could utilize is rushing out Aria and Elegy the Melodious Divas to make her monsters immune to battle destruction, card destruction effects and general targeting effects. Amy could also utilize other generic fairy support such as Honest to increase a monster's attack or Herald of Orange Light to negate an opponent's monster effect. An easy way to do that is with the archetype's Link monster, Bloom Harmonist the Melodious Composer, which can discard a card to special summon two different level Melodious monsters from the deck.

Bacha the Melodious Maestra

The Melodious fusion monsters are nothing to scoff at either. Bacha the Melodious Maestra can special summon a Melodious monster on its summon and on its destruction as well as prevent Amy's Fusion monster's activated effects from being negated. Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat has the potential to bounce an opponent's key card back to their hand so long as Amy banishes any face up Melodious monsters; it also has a floating effect that can summon another Melodious monster from the Extra Deck, but only if the opponent removes the card from the field. Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir has the same kind of effect as Yubel, meaning Amy could slam it into a big monster and deal massive effect damage to her opponent.

Also, Amy would absolutely play Brilliant Rose in her deck, for obvious reasons.

Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat

Ace Monster: Flowering Etoile the Melodious Magnificat

7: Mephiles

Mephiles the Dark

Mephiles is an interesting one, since there are a lot of archetypes that would be fitting choices for him to play. Either DARK attribute or FIRE attribute decks are fitting considering what he is and how he's part of Solaris, the Sun God, and either Fiends or Zombies would be a good choice for him. In the end, I decided on the Memento archetype.

Mementotlan-Horned Dragon

What's Memento about? It's an archetype made up of skeletal monsters decorated with colourful gems that heavily resemble pre-existing monsters in the card game. For example, Mementotlan Dark Blade resembles Dark Blade and Mementotlan-Horned Dragon resembles Tri-Horned Dragon. Mephiles is a malevolent entity that resembles Shadow the Hedgehog and has a crystalline appearance. I'd say that's pretty fitting, don't you? Also, the Memento archetype is another archetype that heavily abuses destruction tactics. Isn't that like how Mephiles is an evil creature who only craves destruction? And finally, one of the archetype's monsters is a Fusion monster that requires 3 Memento monsters to Fusion Summon it. Isn't that like how Mephiles can fuse with Iblis to essentially Fusion Summon Solaris? Seriously, this archetype just screams "Mephiles", it's that perfect for him!

Mementotlan Cranium Burst

Mephiles as a duellist would be like Marik Ishtar in how he'd use a lot of torture tactics and the Memento archetype's destruction based playstyle would allow him to toy with his opponents just as Mephiles is wont to do. One example of a torturous tactic would be using the Trap Card Mementotlan Cranium burst in order to force his opponents to attack his monster with the highest attack. The archetype's strongest monster has 5000 attack points, so if he had that on the field along with Cranium Burst, that'd really hurt the opponent! He'd rely a lot on Mementotlan Angwitch's effect to search for cards he needs and would exploit Mementotlan Ghattic's Graveyard effect to get it back on the field. He'd also frequently use Mementotlan Fusion to Fusion Summon if necessary. I think his signature card would be Mementotlan Fusion as mentioned, while his ace monster would be either Mementomictlan Tecuhtlica - Creation King or Mementoal Tecuhtlica - Combined Creation.

Mementoal Tecuhtlica - Combined Creation

He's main tactics would be to get those monsters on the field as quickly as possible and bludgeon the opponent to death with them.

This is an archetype I feel best suited for one of Sonic's darkest villains...

8: Silver the Hedgehog

Silver the Hedgehog

Silver the Hedgehog: Time Thief/PSY-Frame

Time Thief Hack

I'll be honest, I didn't know this archetype existed when I first began writing for this project. Silver was originally going to have a generic Psychic deck with the PSY-Frame series as the spearhead, but a deck themed around time travel is perfect for a time traveler.

The ace of the Time Thief Archetype is Time Thief Redoer, a rank four Xyz monster that can steal the top card of an opponent's deck and convert it into Xyz material, including spells and traps, during the standby phase. Redoer's effects depend on what type of card is detached, and it is a quick effect too. Detaching a monster will banish Redoer until the end phase, a good defensive play if Silver's opponent is targeting it with a destruction effect. Detaching a spell would let Silver draw a card; I don't need to explain why that's good. Detaching a trap will send an opponent's face up card to the top of their deck so that Redoer can suck it up later.

Getting this monster out is not especially difficult with how Time Thief monsters can easily get themselves on the field. Time Thief Regulator can tribute itself to summon two Time Thief monsters from the deck. Time Thief Winder can search a card from the deck. Time Thief Adjuster can special summon itself if another Time Thief monster is on the field.

To help supplement Redoer, Silver can also make use of the trap Time Thief Flyback as it can attach a Time Thief card from the deck to an Xyz monster. Silver can also banish Flyback from the Graveyard to attach a card from the opponent's graveyard to Redoer. Another good trap is Time Thief Retrograde, which can negate a spell or trap effect and attach the negated card to Redoer.

Time Thief Perpetua

Another Xyz monster Silver would have access to is Time Thief Perpetua, which has the ability to summon a Time Thief from the graveyard as well as supply Redoer with Xyz material from the deck. Time Thief Double Barrel is similar to Redoer, but not as strong as it can't restock Xyz material on its own. Double Barrel increases its attack by 400 if it detaches a monster, takes control of an opponent's monster (but it can't attack and its effects are negated) if a spell is detached, and can negate a face up monster's effects if a trap is detached.

PSY-Framelord Omega

Also, to keep in theme with Silver's psychic powers, he would have access to the PSY-Frame series of cards. PSY-Frame Gamma can negate a monster effect from the hand and then special summon itself, which in turn lets it summon PSY-Frame Driver from the hand, deck or graveyard. That effect is very useful against something like Ash Blossom. Those two monsters can Synchro into PSY-Framelord Omega, a monster that can banish itself until Silver's next Standby Phase to banish a random card in the opponent's hand.

Some of the Time Thief cards are Psychic type as well, so Silver would basically play a Psychic deck.

Time Thief Redoer

Ace Monster: Time Thief Redoer

9: Shadow the Hedgehog

Shadow the Hedgehog

For my final entry, I've chosen Shadow the Hedgehog. So what kind of deck would he play? Once again, I think this is a no-brainer. He'd play the Destiny HERO archetype.

Destiny HERO - Dreadmaster

I mean come on, it's an archetype themed around anti-heroes. What more do you need? Also the fact the archetype has "destiny" in its name kinda sums up Shadow the Hedgehog perfectly, don't you? Shadow has been all about regaining memories of his past after Sonic Adventure 2 and his character development at the end of Shadow the Hedgehog has him as a guy who makes his own destiny, or defies it like in Sonic 06 when he continuously defies Mephiles' attempts to manipulate him. Also the Destiny HERO archetype looks pretty villainous with some of the monster designs, much like how Shadow looks pretty villainous upon a first glance and yet both the Destiny HEROes and Shadow the Hedgehog aren't actually evil. That and Destiny HERO - Drawhand's pose has him pointing his hand like he's using a gun. Shadow uses guns in Shadow the Hedgehog. Nuff said. XD So yeah, Destiny HERO is perfect for Shadow.

Shadow's deck would be built around Fusion Summoning his ace monsters and gathering resources in order to get them on the field quickly. The Destiny HERO archetype has a lot of search options such as Destiny HERO - Denier and the archetype has multiple options for Special Summoning such as Destiny HERO - Drilldark, Destiny HERO - Decider which can Special Summon from the Graveyard and Destiny HERO - Dreamer, which can Special Summon itself from the Graveyard. The archetype also has a lot of means to draw more cards such as Destiny Draw or the effect of Destiny HERO - Drawhand so Shadow has handy ways to maintain hand advantage.

Fusion Destiny

His signature card would be Fusion Destiny and his ace cards would be both Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer and Destiny HERO - Dominance.

Destiny HERO - Destroyer Phoenix Enforcer

Phoenix Enforcer has a highly abusable destruction effect in where it can destroy a card on both sides of the field, including itself, and if it itself is destroyed, it can Special Summon a Destiny HERO from the Graveyard, meaning it's possible to keep recycling Phoenix Enforcer and keep abusing its effect unless it falls victim to Called By The Grave or something. Destiny HERO - Dominance lets Shadow see the top 5 cards of his opponent's deck and rearrange them in any order, which can benefit him as he can see what's coming and he could potentially disrupt his opponent's play by putting a bad card at the top so they draw that on their next turn and he also gets to draw a card any time Dominance destroys a monster. And if it's destroyed? Shadow gets to bring back three Level 9 or lower monsters, thus setting him up for another potential Fusion Summon.

Overall, I think this anti-hero archetype is just the deck for the anti-hero hedgehog himself.

10: Dr. Eggman

Dr. Eggman

Dr. Eggman: Metalmorph

Metalzoa X

We have decided that Dr Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, the greatest scientific genius in the world, would not play anything else other than the new Metalmorph archetype. The Metalmorph archetype is basically one giant reference to the duel between Joey Wheeler and Bandit Keith in Duelist Kingdom. The deck has alternative versions of Zoa, Red-Eyes Black Dragon and even Copycat.

Max Metalmorph

The crux of this deck is Max Metalmorph, a retrain of the original Metalmorph that can tribute monsters to summon powerful "Metal" monsters and equip itself to said monsters to make them immune to destruction effects and grant them 400 extra attack points. Eggman would have access to monsters like Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon, a behemoth that has an omni-negate and the ability to inflict burn damage. There is also Metalzoa X, which can destroy a card in response to an opponent's card activation twice per turn. Lastly, Metalflame Swordsman can inflict 500 burn damage and gain 300 attack points whenever the opponent activates a card effect.

If this deck seems too reliant on a specific trap card, setting Max Metalmorph is really easy to do as most cards in the archetype can search it out, even the Metal monsters. The catch is that there are specific summoning conditions for each of the Metal monsters. For example, Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon needs a dragon monster as tribute. Metal Illusionist can circumvent that limitation as it can substitute itself as the specific tribute Eggman needs for his Metal monsters. Eggman can also make use of Red-Eyes Metal Claw Dragon to activate a Metalmorph trap the turn it is set.

Eggman would also have access to other Metalmorph traps such as Flame Coating Metalmorph, Time Engine (it's treated as a Metalmorph trap) and the original Metalmorph. Flame Coating Metalmorph can summon any Metal monster, regardless of what's tributed, then it can equip itself to the monster to provide a one time protection effect. Time Engine can resurrect a destroyed monster, nuke the opponent's monsters and deal effect damage based on the resurrected monster's attack.

Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder

As for Eggman's Extra Deck, because he has many high level monsters, I can see him playing high rank XYZ monsters such as Number 11: Big Eye or Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder.

To quickly talk about thematic parallels, the entire concept of the Metalmorph deck perfectly fits with Eggman's character. Eggman is obsessed with seizing control over the world and bending it to his will, typically through excessive industrialization. Taking already established monsters like Zoa, Red Eyes or Flame Swordsman and transforming them into machines is very on-brand for the mad doctor. In fact, Metalmorph could be seen as a form of robotization or as an extension of the metal virus.

Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon

Ace Monster: Red-Eyes Black Fullmetal Dragon

Media Man: And that's all ten characters we've chosen between us. Do you agree with our choices? Which archetypes do you think would fit these characters as well? Do you like the selection of characters we picked? I'd love to hear your comments down below.

Thanks again for joining me for this essay Overkill. It's been so fun throwing around these ideas with you.

Overkill: Glad to be here. I'd be down if you ever want to do a part two of this.

Media Man: Now there's an idea. Maybe we could do a sequel post some day...

That's all for this essay everybody. Hope you enjoyed and I'll see all of you next time. See you later media fans!
