Whew....that was quite a retrospective. For the past few weeks, I went over Sonic the Hedgehog comics I once read and (used) to enjoy. As you know, I don't look at those comics very favourably anymore. Upon re-evaluation of the issues for said retrospective, I found a myriad of problems I either never noticed or chose to ignore because I was a blind fanboy who didn't know any better. Now looking through the eyes of a critic, the flaws are that much more noticeable and I question how or why I ever used to enjoy those comics in the first place. The biggest example of that is the Mecha Sally arc from Issues 230-247.
If you remember the part of the retrospective where I covered it, I found the Mecha Sally arc to be overstuffed, overly padded, lacking in development for the characters, lacking any actual intelligence put into the scripts and plot holes that kill the story before it even leaves the starting gate. The fact a botched lawsuit with Ken Penders meant the story was dead in the water before it could even finish didn't do it any favours. So after going over that arc, it had me curious...could it be improved? What would a good version of the Mecha Sally arc be like? What are the biggest problems it had and how would they be fixed? I'm sure everyone will have their own idea on the subject, and this post is such a case for me. For this essay, I'm going to do my own rewrite of the Mecha Sally arc and see how it could be improved.
For this rewrite, I'll be going over the biggest problems of the story and how to fix them while also sorting out the pacing issues and lack of character development. Also I'll be doing this rewrite under the mindset that the Penders lawsuit is happening, ergo I'll see how to get around that. But I'm not doing this rewrite by myself. Nope, this project requires two people to see it through, and I can't think of anyone better than my awesome friend and biggest contributor to the blog. Ladies and gentlemen, let's welcome back The Wandering Fox!
WF: Hello everybody! It’s not that long ago we did a collab was it? First it was Chaotix Casefiles now here we are rewriting this tripe that the “genius” Ian Flynn gave us.
If you don’t know or haven’t read my old essays, then I should tell you this: I do not like Ian Flynn or his era on Sonic. I think the man has a huge ego that should’ve been humbled ages ago, he has a cult following to the point a fan said he’s god and his cult went after the Media Man when he criticised how Flynn wrote Blaze. To me, his writing is similar to that of a stereotypical Sonic “fan”: they invent an overly powerful character to challenge the heroes for the sake of “drama, edginess and being cool” and drag out the story to make it “epic” and relies on cheap jokes and references to be “in with the kids”.
The Mecha Sally arc was where I really felt my frustrations with Flynn boil to the point where I vocalised my thoughts. So much idiocy, so much continuity errors, such ego bleeding in from the outside, the story dragged on like a dumb soap opera and for what? To redesign the Freedom Fighters? That’s what it was going to!
I’m glad Media Man has got me here because after a lot of talking we decided to give you our take on Mecha Sally. The idea is to make it smaller in terms of length and scale, try and avoid using as many Penders characters as we can, tell a more psychological story that really delves into what advantages Eggman has with Mecha Sally and how the heroes try to save her.
Would you like to start us, Media Man?
MM: My pleasure Foxy.
Before we begin the story, we of course need to go over the biggest change for the rewrite, what stuff will be kept and what will be dropped. So let's go over them:
Changes
First of all, the length of the arc will be shortened to avoid the padded nature that the previous arc suffered from. Certain issues such as 233 and all four issues of the Endangered Species arc will be dropped entirely.
This rewrite will have no connection to any Sonic Universe arcs, meaning Babylon Rising and Scrambled will have no bearing on the plot and the Secret Freedom Fighters will be dropped entirely.
Mecha Sally will be a more functional and competent villain and have more of a personality.
The repetitive nature of the arc's second half where it was "Sonic and friends chase Eggman, they fight in the location of the day, Mecha Sally gets away because of contrivance and the chase continues" will be dropped as well.
Antoine will get hurt during the battle in Issue 234, but he won't be rendered comatose and Bunnie won't leave to get legionized. She won't even lose her cybernetics. We'll cover more on what we mean when we get to the meat of the rewrite.
With the exception of Geoffrey St. John, little to no Penders characters will be used here.
You got anything on your end WF?
WF: I will say that since we’re acting with the lawsuit in the background, we will use Penders’ characters we feel that WORK within the story, like Rosemary, Elias, Geoffrey. The story isn’t gonna be a Mobius trotting adventure. That way we get the most out of them before the lawsuit comes.
Scourge won’t be creeping in Sonic’s memories either.
The Council of Acorn actually gets to be smart here!
MM: And that I feel covers it. So without further ado, let's begin the rewrite...
Issue 230
Very little of the issue needs to be changed here. With the exception of a couple of details, the issue will more or less go as normal. So what changes here then? Two things:
1: The old immunity DOES get reset here and the only reason Eggman and Sonic don't get roboticized is because they were too far away from the redirected roboticizer beam.
2: Nicole being from the future means Eggman's technology shouldn't be a problem for her. So instead, it's a case of Eggman kept them stalling for so long that by the time Sally is able to plug Nicole in, she's not fast enough to stop the roboticizer, so she quickly improvises by redirecting it. Sally acknowledges what'll happen to her, but tells Nicole to do it anyway.
Issue 231 will more or less play out as normal too, minus the inclusion of the Tails Doll and the Death Egg's Chaos Emerald disappearing. There will be no Tails Doll in this rewrite and the Death Egg still has the blue Chaos Emerald.
Issue 232 will be where the changes REALLY start to happen. You take it from here WF!
Issue 232
WF: Issue 232 sees Sonic use his brain. You remember in this issue Sonic goes to Angel Island, argues with Knuckles and doesn’t jump on the Master Emerald to turn super and find Mecha Sally? Well here we go. This is where things change. Like drastically.
Bunnie’s crystallised limbs are treated differently. Cos Naugus made a very bad go at protecting the city from Titan Metal Sonic, the citizens are starting to rethink in their beliefs on him, Bunnie being crystallised by him accidentally not helping. Naugus offers to clear this up by stripping the crystal away but Bunnie and Antoine refuse and Tails speaks up for Nicole, saying she can deal with this. Naugus tries to stir the citizens against her but Amy gets them to back off while Nicole comes along. She can sense Bunnie’s robotic limbs are still there and while Naugus’s magic can weaken her nanites, it doesn’t stop her from interacting with the robotic limbs. Nicole ignores the whispers in the crowd thanks to Tails, Bunnie and Antoine giving her their faith. Nicole gives Bunnie’s cybernetics a bit of oomph to shatter the crystal from inside and it works. Bunnie stands up and flexes her limbs and says things feel different, like she can feel a tickle of sorts within them. She then finds that she’s now got nanite abilities thanks to Nicole’s help. This amazes the crowd while Naugus is floored by this.
Upon hearing Sally has been robotocised, after Elias calms down he looks to the Sword of Light and remembers how it can empower its user. It being bestowed upon his family gives him an idea. He calls the Council together and asks for Sonic and Antoine to be with him. He says that because Sally has been compromised and is a Robian, they have to adjourn the case with Naugus while the Royal Family has to be moved into hiding. Rotor agrees as with her roboticised Sally could give Eggman info that could risk the lives of the royal family. Naugus is annoyed but Geoffrey, shocked by Sally being robotocised and seeing the stress it’s done, suggests he play along with this. Adjourning the case means Naugus will have to be locked up under grounds of assaulting the city and the council but will be heard out later, as must Geoffrey, but this can work to his advantage as it will give him time to think. The council recommend Nicole be contained to Freedom HQ until this matter is resolved, which annoys Sonic and Antoine. With this done, Elias talks with Sonic and Antoine. He knows that Sonic will go after Sally but he has to think first and he gives the Sword of Light to Antoine, telling him to keep it safe and it will help Sally. Sonic and Antoine leave with Sonic seeing the Death Egg getting away. Going to Freedom HQ Sonic realises he can get Knuckles to help him and asks Antoine if he can borrow the Sword of Light.
Issue 233 is primarily aboard the Death Egg and Angel Island. Eggman questions Mecha Sally on the reason why Ixis Naugus is back and has his sanity restored. Mecha Sally explains the Chaos Emerald he wields has restored him to sanity and has tried to take the throne, going to the Council of Acorn to argue his case. Eggman is interested in this and then enquires that since he has her, what will they do now? Mecha Sally explains that if a royal has been compromised like she has then the royal family will be moved out of the city and into hiding, they have multiple choices of where to go but a special convoy will drive them out. Mecha Sally further explains that because Nicole is not seen in a positive light anymore then the Council will have her held in Freedom HQ. This makes Eggman happy. He now knows how to finally destroy the Freedom Fighters for good and calls for the Death Egg to stay near New Mobotropolis, guessing that the Freedom Fighters will be so divided in their works they will not stand a chance against him.
Sonic goes to Freedom HQ and he and Nicole have a heart-to-heart of Sally and her being contained but Sonic says he’s not letting Sally go and asks her to open a doorway to Angel Island. There, Sonic tells Knuckles what happened and this is where he actually does the smart thing: Sonic asks for a Warp Ring. Knuckles isn’t sure but Sonic reminds him that they went high and above to save him from Enerjak. Knuckles agrees and Sonic asks him if Espio can come over to Freedom HQ. He needs him to do him a favour. Espio hasn’t left yet to look for Mighty and Ray thanks to Charmy still being there. Espio goes through the portal while Sonic jumps on the Master Emerald and turns into Super Sonic, brandishing the Sword of Light. He then opens a Warp Ring and goes through to the Death Egg. Super Sonic tears his way through the Death Egg with his powers and the sword, causing Eggman to abandon the Death Egg with many flying fortresses leaving it. Super Sonic finds Mecha Sally and holds the sword to her face, at which Mecha Sally’s mind clears for Sally to come back. Though scared by what she’s become, Super Sonic assures her that they will get this sorted. Taking her hand, Super Sonic flies with her out of the Death Egg as it is destroyed and he brings Mecha Sally to Freedom HQ where everybody reunites with her.
Issue 234
Though the Death Egg is gone, Eggman still has the blue Chaos Emerald and enough resources to go through with his plan and though Super Sonic has rescued Mecha Sally, he can still see and hear through her. He watches through her that the Sword of Light offers clarity to the mind but it’s not permanent. If it’s taken away, Sally’s mind fades. Sally has to be contained in prison until they can find a way to reverse the effects and though Nicole is there, she is under scrutiny and certain rules to not interfere until the council approves of her. Sally vaguely recalls telling Eggman about the royal family having to leave and urges Sonic to protect them, even if it means taking the Sword of Light away from her. Sonic takes her to the prison and holds her hand before she’s shut away with an inhibitor clamp on her. Mecha Sally then says “Robian programming restored. Attempts to contain original mind…troublesome” hinting Sally’s mind is fighting Mecha Sally.
The second half of the issue has Elias and his family moved out of New Mobotropolis but Eggman, thanks to still having enough resources, sends out Metal Sonic and another Silver Sonic to try and kill Elias. The issue plays out differently as Antoine has the Sword of Light which lets him go toe to toe with Metal Sonic and manages to survive with a graze to his arm while Bunnie helps Sonic and Tails battle Silver Sonic, her nanite abilities proving helpful in shielding the convoy. Eggman has Silver Sonic and Metal Sonic self destruct but Bunnie manages to conjure a shield around everybody which protects them. Eggman is angered but decides to play the long game by spying through Mecha Sally while an injured Antoine is relieved he saved Elias.
MM: Issue 235
Like in the original story, Issue 235 is a breather issue that lets the FFs deal with the events they've been going through lately and explore the psychological effect of Sally's roboticization on everybody. Though they have her in custody, she's still Robian and it's still harrowing to see her like that. Tails has a moment where he breaks down reminiscing on his childhood with his "Aunt" Sally and he pleads for any chance to hear her tell stories again like she did before. Sonic comforts Tails and admits despite his bravado, he's barely holding it together himself. He'll do anything, ANYTHING to hear his girl's voice again...her normal Mobian voice. Antoine and Bunnie share a moment too in how they're shaken how close they've come to losing it all and how they'd give anything to have Sally back. It may seem hopeless, but the fact they have her is enough to have them certain they can rescue her. Even Amy, despite her crush on Sonic, wants Sally back since Sally makes Sonic happy and it's crushing to see her beloved look so sad without her. Antoine gives Sonic the Sword of Light again and Sonic holds it close to Sally. She's momentarily restored again and she thanks Sonic for stopping Eggman's plan that she suggested to him. Sonic assures her it's OK and they're working on de-roboticizing her. Sally wonders if salvaging the wreckage of the Death Egg might help their case, which Sonic tells her to hold that thought. Meanwhile, Naugus hears chatters outside his cell and gets an idea...
Issue 236
We follow up on this with Naugus sneaking out of his cell in a fog like form. He finds where Mecha Sally is being kept and he taps on her head. He thinks he may be able to use this to his advantage. His staff and Chaos Emerald have been confiscated, but in his fog form he's able to find them again and he uses the emerald to contact Eggman. Eggman himself is in the Egg Stache flier, the only thing left of the Death Egg now, and he gets Naugus' message. He tells Eggman what's happening and explains that Nicole has been removed from New Mobotropolis. Naugus is content with letting Eggman kill the Freedom Fighters so long as he gets to kill the Acorn family. The evil wizard returns to his cell before anyone can notice he's gone. Naugus forms a plan to set Mecha Sally loose but doesn’t notice Espio is overhearing him, watching him in the dungeon talking to himself. The chameleon is immediately suspicious and sneaks away.
Meanwhile, Sonic, Tails, Amy and Rotor are in Freedom HQ discussing their next plan of action with Nicole. Sonic tells them what Sally told him: that they salvage the Death Egg's remains and see if they can swipe the World Roboticizer from it. Tails and Nicole both agree it's a good idea and they can help make it functional again. It'll be tough to pull off discreetly however, so they need to move cautiously and not tip Eggman off about their plans. Nicole also thinks they can use Mecha Sally to their advantage. If she can clear the programming in her mind, Mecha Sally will be a Robian on their side until she can be returned to normal. Tails suggests rebuilding Nicole's handheld form and that should get them close enough to restore Sally's mind. But for now, they have other matters to deal with. The Council of Acorn want to go ahead with hearing Naugus out now Sally is out of harm's way. Tails is annoyed that his mother's going through with this since she especially should know Naugus is dangerous from him and Sonic. Amy even points out the obvious: why would anyone listen to Naugus despite it being well known he's an enemy of the Acorns. Sonic shrugs and suggests "Knowing him, it'll be magic", to which Espio appears and confirms that's the case. His spying on Naugus has allowed him to figure out the truth and Sonic agrees it all makes sense now. The council's idiocy earlier wasn't idiocy, it was manipulation at Naugus' hands. This angers Tails and he growls "How dare Naugus do that to my mother!" while Rotor muses how he didn't quite feel himself back then. Espio also reveals Naugus seems to be in cahoots with Eggman and they need to keep him well away from the Chaos Emerald. Sonic just smirks and crows to himself how Naugus is so busted.
The issue then ends with an internal shot that reveals something unknown to our heroes: Sally is battling her Robian self from inside her mind.
WF: Issue 237
In her mind, Sally tries getting past her Robian form but no matter what she does, Mecha Sally is still in control. Her Robian self asks her why should she fight when all will be lost. Sally counters that if Mecha Sally knows her so well then she should know that she hardly quits. Mecha Sally conjures a construct of her cuddling Sonic’s headstone and Sally confesses that was a dark time for her and she wasn’t proud of how things went after that but even then she’s been through so much pain. Pain is something Mecha Sally will never understand, she’s just a mere programme who just follows commands, is small fry compared to Nicole who is more Mobian than she could ever imagine. Mecha Sally responds with “If I had a heart, I’d mockingly say it bleeds for you”. Sally isn’t at all pleased with her and tells her that soon she will just be nothing. All the while Eggman chuckles as he overhears this, using the blue Chaos Emerald to power up all his weaponry, while remarking that Nicole not being there to protect New Mobotropolis is giving him some advantage with Mecha Sally, just waiting for the right moment.
Meanwhile, Tails and Rotor are working on a new handheld form for Nicole but are trying to be discreet. Rotor has done as much as he can before he leaves to return to the Council, letting Tails finish the rest. At the same time, Bunnie and Antoine are with Amy, salvaging what they can find from the Death Egg. They lament how this could have been avoided if they had destroyed the Egg Dome, but Amy says it might’ve been dumb but they’re at least learning from it now. Antoine has to stop for a moment as his arm is hurting and he chats with Bunnie about Geoffrey, how Hershey’s death has driven him to such darkness and wonders if he would’ve done the same in her shoes. Bunnie hates to think of it but then she wonders how exactly Hershey died and gets an idea. Meanwhile, Sonic and Rotor escort Naugus back to the council but Sonic keeps the staff and Chaos Emerald away from him, saying that since he caused a bit of trouble with this it’s best he keeps it away. Getting nervous, Naugus says he needs it to stay focused but Sonic says to him it will be near him, he doesn’t need to hold it. Geoffrey asks to be released but Rotor says he can wait. Antoine and Bunnie then come to see Geoffrey, wanting answers. While on the way to the council, Sonic sees Tails with Amadeus and Rosemary and they give him a hug while Tails smiles at Sonic. Tails then leaves for Freedom HQ where Amy has been guarding Nicole.
Geoffrey explains to Bunnie and Antoine how Hershey died, she was doing undercover work in the Dark Egg Legion Felidae Chapter, but was exposed and killed. They dig in to him and Geoffrey explains whatever he found of Hershey was her cloak she was wearing as well as her wedding ring to him. Antoine can’t help but sigh and asks how stupid Geoffrey is, with Bunnie asking if it ever occurred to Geoffrey that Hershey had in fact faked her death to get more info on the Dark Egg Legion, the fact all they found of her was her cloak and wedding ring tells her that she CLEARLY faked it. Geoffrey sits there dumbfounded and realises he let his emotions get the better of him. Antoine tells him if he really wants to make things right then tell them the truth of what Naugus has been up to.
Issue 238
This sees Naugus be charged with disrupting the peace but he is willing to pay for it so long as they hear him out. He keeps looking to the Chaos Emerald nervously while Sonic smirks. Naugus tries to argue he was tainted by dark magic in the past but since he’s had his mind restored he’s a new man and he wants to do right, but says the Acorns have done enough damage to the people thanks to trusting Robotnik and Nicole. Elias, who’s joining the meeting through a screen, says that his family made mistakes but they learn. He then says they’ve learnt a great deal about Naugus. Espio then appears with a recording of Naugus talking to himself when he was communicating with Eggman, plotting to kill the Acorns and the people. Rosemary then stands up and asks if it’s true Naugus had been magically swaying them into listening to him, because today she is a lot clearer in her head. Rotor notes this as well and so does Penelope. Hamlin keeps quiet but gruff in agreement. Naugus started to panic and says he was taken from his staff and his mind wasn’t clear but Espio says the staff was near enough to him as he requested while he stayed in prison. Antoine and Bunnie arrive with Geoffrey who confesses the truth to them all, that Naugus was trying to sway everybody to his side through magic. Geoffrey admits his fault in this, he lost faith in the Acorns and thought Naugus could be better suited to get things done but he remarks his emotions got the better of him. Naugus screams in rage at Geoffrey’s betrayal. Having lost now, Naugus resorts to brute force and jumps at Sonic but Antoine swings the Sword of Light his way and knocks Naugus back. Trying to retain control of himself, Naugus dissipates and wrestles with Sonic over the Chaos Emerald. Antoine manages to slash him though Naugus throws Sonic into him and makes a grab for the Chaos Emerald, but Geoffrey and Bunnie try stopping him. Naugus shoves Bunnie aside and swats Geoffrey. Grabbing the Chaos Emerald, Naugus screams he will rule all those inferior to him from what’s left of New Mobotropolis. Espio yells at Sonic to get to Mecha Sally as Naugus dissipates. The issue ends with Naugus freeing Mecha Sally and applies crystal gauntlets and arm blades to her with her and Naugus going to run havoc through the city.
Issue 239
Mecha Sally and Naugus battle the heroes in New Mobotropolis, with Mecha Sally losing her cool as Sally tries to wrestle free with Antoine near her with the Sword of Light. Tails is joined by Rotor as he’s trying to finish Nicole’s handheld form, Rotor explains the Council haven’t agreed to releasing Nicole due to the fighting. Tails is glad his mum knows the truth and with Nicole’s handheld form fixed they go to the city. In the battle, Naugus tries to get Mecha Sally to tell him where the royal family is.
Ixis Naugus: Tell me, princess! Where is the rest of your family!? That technology Robotnik has should open up all your secrets!
Mecha Sally: They are in F-F-F-Feral-gzzzst! Go to hell, Naugus!
Bunnie restrains Mecha Sally long enough for Tails to get Nicole closer to her and connects her to Mecha Sally. The issue ends with Nicole appearing inside Mecha Sally and joins her friend to battle the Robian.
Issue 240
Mostly a battle issue, it ends with Mecha Sally defeated by Nicole and lets Sally take back full control of her body. During the fight Eggman is flying his Stache Ship towards New Mobotropolis. Naugus chuckles as he says he can at least live to see all Sonic and the Freedom Fighters work for be undone.
MM: Issue 241
Issue 241 follows up from this with Eggman making his move. He deploys his forces and several Egg Swats and his Metal series (Metal Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy) lead the assault. The Freedom Fighters are forced to abandon Naugus and fight Eggman, this time with Sally on their side now her mind is free of Eggman's control. Sonic, Tails and Amy fight their Metal counterparts while Mecha Sally fights Metal Knuckles. She takes a bit of damage during the fight, which worries Sonic and distracts him for a moment so Metal Sonic is able to get the drop on him. Seeing the effect it has on Sonic, Naugus gets the idea to kill Sally right in front of him, thinking it's dampen his spirit long enough for Eggman to finish him off. He begins to crystallize Mecha Sally, but Antoine saves the day by throwing the Sword of Light over to the Robian. Mecha Sally catches it and it empowers her enough to break free of the crystal and fight Naugus. The battle ends with Eggman's forces destroyed, Eggman forced to flee and Naugus slain as Mecha Sally runs him through with the Sword of Light. Sonic sums it up perfectly: "Talk about fixing both problems in one day!" But Mecha Sally collapses, fatigued from the damage. It isn't serious, but they can't de-roboticize her in this condition as it could have horrible effects on her organic body.
Issue 242
Issue 242 follows up with Tails and Rotor repairing Mecha Sally, the purple Chaos Emerald stashed away in the Royal Vault for safe keeping and the damage to the city cleared up while Sonic leads the salvation efforts. Now nothing else is going on, they can carry out their plan at last. Geoffrey, wanting to repent for his actions, helps them uncover the World Roboticizer from the Death Egg's remains. Geoffrey apologizes for siding with Naugus, while also admitting it means nothing coming from him. Sonic just says he's glad a stinky guy like him was able to see the light in the end. Once this is over, Geoffrey vows he'll find his wife and see if Hershey really is alive. Sonic wishes him luck on that. In the meantime, Mecha Sally is repaired and the World Roboticizer is brought back to New Mobotropolis. Tails, Rotor and Nicole work on the machine in order to get it operational again, and also reverse its effects. Sonic asks if Sally's nervous since it could still go wrong. Sally tenderly touches Sonic's cheek and just says "If I have to remain in this form forever, then so be it. I don't care if I'm flesh or metal. All that matters is I'm alive, I can still lead the Freedom Fighters...and I'm still with you Sonic." Touched, Sonic kissed her cheek, hoping the next time they kiss, she won't be metal. The issue ends after a time-skip saying a few days have passed with Tails and Rotor announcing its ready. They only hope it'll work...
WF: Issue 243
Sally enters the de-robiticiser and is de-roboticised, relievedly hugging Sonic and everybody else. Though they succeeded in doing this they now know that with the immunity gone, Eggman can start roboticising people again. Sonic takes Sally’s hand promises her that this time they will end him. Sally though feels guilty. Though Nicole has been allowed back in, all of this could’ve been avoided if they had arrested Eggman and Snively, or destroy the Egg Dome or tell everybody of Nicole as a double agent. Nicole admits they all made mistakes. The best thing to do now is to learn from them. Rotor then reveals that he’s retiring from the Council and is gonna start working on a nanite suit that will help his back. The team are happy they are whole again and they get themselves sorted, ready to find Eggman and end this battle with him for good.
And that is where the Mecha Sally arc ends. It ends more happily and the Penders characters get enough done with them before the lawsuit takes hold of the comic.
MM: And that wraps up our rewrite.
With our rewrite of Mecha Sally, we have fixed the pacing issues, let the characters use their brains for once, added more emotional depth to the story, given the cast more time to shine, avoided butchering the Freedom Fighters for pretentious drama, kept the story self-contained within the pages of its own story without it spilling over into Sonic Universe and given it a solid, conclusive ending. Is it perfect? No, of course not. Neither me or WF are that arrogant. We know it isn't perfect, nothing is. But I firmly believe we have delivered a superior story to what we actually got. If the story had also played out like this instead of the original, we would've gotten it finished before the lawsuit screwed everything up since it wasn't until Issue 244 when it took effect and ours ends just before that.
But that's just my opinion. What do you guys think? Did you enjoy our rewrite? Do you think the original is still better or prefer our rewrite? Do let me know in the comments below.
And big thanks to Wandering Fox for contributing to this rewrite. I feel the two of us together made something better than if I'd tried coming up with it myself. Your contributions are always much appreciated buddy. ^^
WF: You’re always welcome mate, I’m happy to help out and it was nice thinking this up with you and giving Mecha Sally a better ending. I feel it worked out well in ending it with the team reunited and ready to fight Eggman and finish him for good. I quite liked how we did Antoine, Sally, and Tails with his parents, Sally struggling with the Robian side of things was a wasted opportunity in the comics, and Antoine turning detective with Bunnie was nice to have done. I felt as well Tails needed a good scene with both his mum and dad before the lawsuit.
If you ask me if it went like this then ending it here would at least give it a definitive ending. Is Scourge still out there? Yes :/ but it’s left open for all of us of what comes next. Does Fiona learn from her idiocy? Does Eggman get killed? We don’t know. But then at least here you could do that dumb crossover with Mega Man and a series of game tie ins to keep the comic going until you end things with Archie.
Tell us what you think in the comments below. I’m just gonna wander off now!
MM: True to his name as ever.
Join me again on Friday as I review The Mandalorian and Grogu. See you then media fans!

Very solid rewrite. :)
Wow, this is, very good and I say 100X Betters than the canon one from the comics (same one that killed Archie SOnic for me), as you have the Freedom Fighters be more active, Mecha Sally is struggling and still have Naugus & Eggman as the main villains for this saga. I say this could work also as a semi-series finale for the original Archie Sonic run before the reboot.
I am glad you two guys always make stories better and with your flare. :)
